A new report from UCL Computer Science proposes a set of recommendations to help improve the way police implement “digital triage,” a practice used to improve decision-making around what digital devices to collect and analyse, and how to prioritise them in order of their importance.

Did you know that more than 300,000 nappies are thrown away globally, every minute?

Absorbent hygiene products, which includes nappies as well incontinence products and period products, account for an estimated 160–200 million tonnes of waste each year around the world, with the vast majority sent to landfill or incineration. This can be a major contributor to plastic pollution, contaminated water and the spread of disease.

These products have benefits for health, dignity and caregiving, but how can we reduce their environmental impact?

Experts call for action on growing nappy waste crisis Earlier toilet training and new recycling technologies are among expert-backed solutions to reduce the environmental impact of disposable nappies and other hygiene products, described in a new study led by UCL researchers.

Duncan Brumby (UCL Interaction Centre) comments on new research which has discovered that AI tools may twist messages on sensitive topics, with tech companies sometimes injecting their own political bias into redrafts and rewrites. The research suggests that small changes in drafting could spread rapidly and create long-term shifts in public opinion.

The ABSW Media Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for practising scientists, clinicians, and engineers to spend two to six weeks working at the heart of a media outlet.

Training took place in June, and the Fellows will take up their placements throughout July, August, September, and October.
