Directing Arts

Directing Arts Delivering high-quality workshops for directors and actors. It is the vehicle for the WORKING WITH ACTORS workshops, which Stephen teaches internationally.

Directing Arts was formed by Stephen Bayly, director, producer, sometimes actor, and former head of the National Film and Television School GB. For six years, since completing his studies at the Actors Temple in London, Stephen Bayly has been teaching workshops for directors alongside actors, giving them practical tools for creating truthful, in-the-moment performances for film and stage. Stephen’s methods are largely based on the teachings of the great American acting teacher, Sanford Meisner, which Stephen studied under Tom Radcliffe at the Actors Temple.

I was privileged to see this beautiful film at its premiere in Cannes, where its director, Simón Mesa Soto captured the Jury Prize in the Certain Regard. Simón was my student in Colombia, and a graduate of the London Film School. 'A Poet' is a wonderful piece of Neo-Neo Realism, with masterful handling of non-actors in a fiction film. I highly recommend seeing it when it comes your way.
