Battersea County School

Battersea County School

Share

One of the first Comprehensive Schools. Re opened as a comprehensive in September 1946. Full 11-19 curriculum offer.

Built in 1946 by London County Council and extended in 1969 by addition of new buildings including a swimming pool, remodelling extensions built in 1950s. Renamed and reopened in 1988 as Battersea Park School, amalgamated with Sir Walter St John's, a former grammar school. Made into an 'Academy' by Tory Wandsworth Council and most of its good features destroyed by their ideologically driven mess.

This N**i has been courted by Nigel Farage for years to get his money. All those who lost family in WW2 or in the holocaust should think about that!

lots of people remembering teachers and students from the past... before academisation took schools back to the 1920s. Would you believe one academy sent a student home for showing 2" of ankle!!!

A 'bog standard comprehensive ' that produced a huge range of successful students... And a few wrong'uns. By 'bog standard' I'm taking a swipe at the so called labour education secretary who used the expression. The levels of skills required to offer a decent deal to students with such diverse backgrounds and expectations are much higher than in some 'grammar' schools, where there are teachers who simply direct their students to the next chapter of the text book, with punishment if they read the answers in back to do the homework.
