In live situations or ‘fights’ closing the distance and getting the clinch is key to getting someone on the ground.

In BJJ and MMA, the fight carries on from the ground, in a self defence scenario, get them down whilst standing, then make good your escape.

The key to this is in the hips…CONNECT your hips to their leg, together with a strong seat belt/S grip/Gable grip and down they go 🤙

I’ve used this hundreds of times working on the doors and I enjoy passing this skill onto my BJJ students and in the women only self defence classes 🔥🔥🔥🔥

It was a very special evening last night at Wimbledon BJJ, as I gave out some very well deserved promotions, including two promotions to black belt 🤙

It’s great to see hard work being rewarded and tying new belts around waists; everyone promoted last night train week in week out, regardless of the weather and if they’ve had a bad day at work.

They turn up regardless and put the graft in on The Best Mats In London ™️ 😬

Last night, I had the immense privilege and honour of hosting BJJ legend at my club Wimbledon BJJ last night 🤙

The event sold out in under twenty four hours and had students from fourteen academies sharing the mats with my students and Chris; there were a record number of black belts on the mats too, eleven in total, twelve if you include the cameraman 🤙

It was a masterclass in the basics, starting with a universal fighting stance, closing the distance, takedowns and guard work, top and bottom.

Plus, as always, Chris’s unique and hilarious rants on world issues and UK and US politics, among other topics, peppered with plenty of swear words that had everyone laughing the whole night 😬

Thanks to everyone who turned up last and helped make history in the making and shouts to all the clubs for their invaluable support...

It’s been way too long since I last met so it was really awesome to be in attendance at my NM affiliate club Submission Scoundrels last night in Tidworth 🤙

Like all Chris’s seminars, he strips everything back to the basics and therein lies the nuggets of gold for everyone to collect and last night was no exception.

In between techniques, you had Chris’s takes on worldwide news and all things USA and how us BJJ’ers are saving the world from nuclear destruction, by buying Gis from Pakistan 👹

Outstanding masterclass as always and looking forward to hosting Chris next Monday at my place 🤙

Great to meet all the Tidworth scoundrels and a pleasure meeting and look forward to hooking up again in August 🤙
