Our young animators have been getting hands-on with the magic of stop motion animation!

This term, they’re learning how to turn simple ideas into moving stories, developing characters, building scenes, positioning their models and discovering how tiny changes between each frame can bring everything to life.

It takes patience, creativity and plenty of experimentation… but that’s all part of the process!

🎬 LIGHT. SHADOW. MISDIRECTION.

This week at Studio 5, our filmmakers have been exploring chiaroscuro, using strong contrasts between light and shadow to create mood, tension and meaning on screen.

Alongside experimenting with lighting, they’ve continued exploring this term’s theme, NOW YOU SEE IT, looking at plot twists, misdirection and how filmmakers can control what an audience sees, and, just as importantly, what they don’t.

It’s all about using the tools of filmmaking to shape the audience’s expectations… before pulling the rug from under them.

Week two of the new term and our young filmmakers in Studios 3 & 4 have been experimenting with plot twists as part of this term’s theme, Now You See It.

They’ve been exploring how filmmakers can play with an audience’s expectations, hide clues in plain sight and suddenly turn a story in a completely different direction. 👀

This term, our Studio 5 filmmakers are exploring NOW YOU SEE IT, looking at plot twists, perspective, unreliable narratives and how filmmakers can manipulate what an audience sees, knows and believes.

What happens when the story we’re watching isn’t quite the story we thought it was?

From developing the concept and writing the screenplay to directing, shooting and editing, the decisions are theirs.
