Tottenham University Technical College

Tottenham University Technical College Technology and Science for Sport, Health & Engineering for students - 14 - 18 years Who’s behind the UTC? What’s the specialism? Why is it important to Tottenham?

The core sponsors of the UTC of Tottenham are Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Middlesex University. Other sponsors include Festo, National Instruments, Fusion Lifestyle, Mindsets UK and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. We are happy to hear from any other individuals or organisations interested in supporting the UTC. The specialism of UTC of Tottenham will be ‘the Technology of Science, Sport

and Health’. The UTC of Tottenham will give students a grounding in the generic science skills required in industry, especially reflecting the rise of digital technology. Some of the science education will be delivered through the prisms of sport and health, ensuring students have the grounding required to work in associated fields such as Sports Science and Health Technologies. Tottenham is an area with huge potential but some significant challenges. Supporters of the UTC of Tottenham are fully committed to raising the expectations and performance of young people in North London. In a global market place young people increasingly need exposure to state of the art technology and need to develop particular aptitudes and attitudes to make them successful in the work place. UTC of Tottenham will assist young people to develop these. The UTC will bring a new and unique model of education to the locality. Where will the UTC of Tottenham be sited? We have a preferred site for the UTC, and hope to be able to come forward with more information about this shortly. What will the governance structure be? The UTC of Tottenham will be managed and led by a board of directors/governors. As with any UTC this board will have a majority membership taken from the University and Employer sponsors. The UTC will function much like other state funded schools and colleges. In the pre-opening stage a Project Support Group and Stakeholder Advisory Group will develop and design the policies, practices, curriculum etc so that the UTC is ready to open in September 2014. The UTC of Tottenham is also being supported in its development by the Department for Education and the Baker Dearing Trust.
