A breath workshop for Pilates teachers, covering the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system; the relationship with the other systems of the body; asthma and other respiratory diseases. We consider breath and movement strategies to bring awareness and improvement to the breath and to the body as a whole.

What a fabulous day! Today I was very lucky to have the opportunity to attend Breathing To Win
Huge thanks to and (some of you may have met Julie Pilates On Tour conference in April) and all the presenters, attendees, ‘demo bodies’ and staff. It was lovely to feel very welcome among a group of such incredibly knowledgeable respiratory specialists/clinicians/physios.
Along with filling my brain with breathing related goodness I got to finally meet some of the wonderful respiratory physios I’ve followed on since my own Bronchiectasis diagnosis and through my learning via Loughborough College for my exercise specialist qualification. So lovely to finally meet you 😊
Next up on the learning front for me is a study day on breathing pattern disorders with the Physiotherapy for BPD group and the week after that I’ll be talking to as part of her Good Egg chat series on IG, we’ll be talking about breathing of course!

It’s time for another Rest & Restore class!
Are you struggling with sleep, either struggling to get to sleep or suffering from broken sleep?
Do you experience low level anxiety? You know that constant state where we feel a bit stressed, nervous or feel like things are just a bit ‘off’!
Any of the above issues can lead to us being stuck in a state of ‘fight or flight’ which can lead to breathing pattern disorders such as upper chest breathing and hyperventilation.
Try breathing ‘low and slow’, pop one hand on your chest and one hand on your abdomen and notice where you feel your breath travelling to.
In Friday’s class I will teach some techniques to stimulate the Vagus nerve and activate our parasympathetic nervous system along with some breath retraining exercises to reduce breathlessness and breathing pattern disorders.
Everyone is welcome!

The Rest & Restore class is a wonderfully calming and restorative 75 minutes of ‘you’ time.
You will feel calmer and lots of people report sleeping very well afterwards!
Perfect for everyone but especially if you have any respiratory, anxiety or sleep issues.
Class is online via Zoom on Friday 31st at 7pm, it’s recorded so if you can’t make it just book your place and I will send you the recording. Everyone who books their spot will have 14 days access to the recording so you can do it as many times as you wish.

We will go through some techniques to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, some Buteyko and other breath techniques with some gentle movement woven in between.
Benefits include:

🫁 Improved ability to cope with stress
🫁 Improves digestion
🫁 Reduced breathing dysfunction
🫁 Potential to reduce breathlessness for those of you recovering from Covid or other respiratory illnesses/conditions

Class is on Friday 27th May at 7pm via Zoom - so you can do it in your pyjamas and jump straight into bed for a deep sleep! 🎉
We will do some Buteyko breathing techniques, other breath exercises, some tricks to downregulate the nervous system and some gentle movement.
