Thinking Thursday.

The answer is 12.
What is the question?

Ask your children and share their ideas with us.

There is no right or wrong answer, it is about getting us thinking.

When I was at school learning was a challenge. During my GCSEs I faced what I felt like was the end of the world. Today looking back we strive to make sure that all children feel confident not only in the exams but applying their knowledge in the world of work.

We often speak to parents who feel their child understands some topics but not others.

Small gaps, feeling less certain during homework, or a drop in classroom confidence.

Our lessons give children the space to ask questions, talk things through and build understanding over time.

Small groups. The same teacher each week. A place where children can explain their thinking and feel more confident in what they are doing.

If you have been thinking about whether this might help your child, you can find more information here:

Each summer we run our Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning camp for Year 5 pupils.

It is a week of teaching, games, challenges and timed practice.

By the end of the week, children are more confident in how they approach questions and more comfortable with unfamiliar problems.

Parents often ask how long does it take for my child to feel confident.

The question is so wide depending on the child, their learning gaps, how much they engage in the lessons and ask questions. I am a runner.

Our data shows that the longer children are with us the more confident they are. Even within a few months the feel like it is helping in school. As one child said, at Growing Young Minds I get to ask the questions without judgements, this helps me learn more.

For every child it is different.

In this video, I talk about what to look for and when it might be worth exploring.

By Year 9 and 10, GCSEs are no longer something “in the future”.

They start to feel closer.

This is often where we see the difference between knowing something and being able to use it.

In lessons, we focus on:
- talking through answers
- explaining thinking
- using strategies that work under pressure

If your child is in Year 9 or 10, this is the time to build those skills so that Year 11 does not feel rushed.

"It has helped me understand my Maths in a more interesting and helpful way. It helps me prepare for my GCSEs. "

Question Time!

What colour is Friday?

There is no right answer.
What matters is how you got there.

With so many different ways to learn now, I often get asked why we still focus on face to face lessons.

As a parent, I understand the options.

But there is something about being in a room, asking questions, listening to others and talking things through that makes a difference.

I have shared more of my thoughts in this blog:
