Someone who truly influenced me. I will be forever grateful for the confidence he inspired in me as a student. His classes were the highlight of my week, especially tap. I realise now, he was a master at creating safe learning environments where everyone felt empowered to grow. ‘Put on yer tap hooves!’ I still say that to this day. Funny, kind, brilliant in every way. We have lost an enormous talent in the dance world.

Everyone at Laine Theatre Arts is deeply saddened by the passing of Phil Winston.

Phil was an exceptional teacher, choreographer and creative whose passion for dance inspired generations of performers.

He will be remembered for his generosity, encouragement and dedication to nurturing young talent.

Our thoughts are with Phil’s family, friends and all who knew and worked with him. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.

The Pendle Witches are flying into UDance NW on 15th March at The Lowry.

The dancers have collaborated to choreograph their own piece inspired by the story of Pendle Witches of 1612. The theme was chosen to explore characterisation and storytelling through dance. Other influences during the creative process include Witches in fairytales and popular culture, magic, accusation, women's rights and patriarchal structures both then and now.

The piece was completed during the spring of 2025 and celebrated with a group hike up Pendle Hill, an area of natural beauty in our region.

Huge thanks to Dance Mama Lucy McCrudden for sprinkling her magic on this project.
