A year ago, we decided to take one step towards empowerment, one step towards liberty, one step towards strength.

We decided it wasn't enough speaking, it was time we were heard! It wasn't enough doing, it was time we got it done! And KCLWA took its first steps towards building a bigger platform and a larger network for all female students on campus- be it with , or , all our initiatives weren't just promises on paper. We took a stand and pledged that this voice wasn't going down, that the journey towards equality is long but when we come together as women who support each other, no path is difficult to tread!

And so, it's that time of the year again! As we take one more step towards building a strong female community on campus, we need your support. We need your voice, your ideas, your strength.

Following the harassment complaints on the KCL Intersectional Feminist Society Open Page, KCLSU Women's Network takes the following stance in the light of recent events:

As the Women's Network at KCLSU, we sought to represent all female students on campus and their concerns. It has recently come to light that the Spring Election process raised some concerns on how voting has taken place around campuses. The KCL Intersectional Feminist Society put up a call to action which was thereafter signed by several other students and societies. There was also a demonstration at the venue where the election results were to be announced.

Our Women's Officer, Sparsh Sehgal, spoke to the society regarding the same, extending support to the campaign and to the society for becoming the voice of these students who have accused some candidates of harassment. We condemn this behaviour on campus and take it upon ourselves to ensure that Kcl spaces are safe for everyone REGARDLESS of their gender, age or race. While KCLSU is still evaluating the situation, we are extending our full resources and support to get to the bottom of this and hope to provide you with some clear actions and statements within the upcoming weeks.

There however is another issue we would like to highlight as the women's association. While our democratic rights give us the position and platform to speak for ourselves, our words should not mislead our audience. The initial statement released by the society was titled "Sexual Harassment" while the attached report spoke of harassment. While we support and stand in solidarity with the cause we would urge you as our fellow female leaders not to use words that do not define the cause and disrespect the serious definition it outlines. We take all issues very seriously and wouldn't tolerate any thing even close to verbal harassment let alone sexual. It has been changed now, after several signatures had already been posted but we appreciate it.

Lastly, we would like to make clear as part of the University-wide campaign we promoted female candidates in hope to strike a balance in representation of the KCLSU. This does not mean we support or oppose any of the standing male candidates. To follow, we would neither accuse nor support any candidates by taking their names on a social platform without being provided with further evidence or till the Intersectional Feminist Society accepts our request to start a dialogue, which they have previously declined.

In the heat of the moment, we would like to employ all our resources and attention to help out KCLSU in our best capacity with the investigation and bring to you justice and the truth.

If you have been affected or would like to discuss anything addressed in this statement please do not hesitate to contact us for support. We as the Women’s Network exist to support all females on campus and strive to make it a safer and cohesive environment.

We are proud to be partnering with KCLBC to provide this opportunity for all female students to apply for a sponsored position for their Milan trip to make it more gender equal.

CALLING FOR ALL FEMALE STUDENTS

KCLBC is proud of it's stand for gender equality, and for us our actions represent our values. As an active member of the KCL community, we want to bridge gender inequality by sponsoring a strong, female candidate for a position on it's upcoming trip to Milan.

The sponsorship provides accommodation, flights, inter city transportation, and tourist attraction tickets for £150, a cost originally over £600.

We encourage all female candidates with a strong interest and passion for the corporate world to apply by sending their CVs and a brief cover letter to [email protected]

Some impressions from our first event - the First KCLSU Women’s Networking Conference!

It was wonderful evening filled with inspirations from all of you ladies who attended! 👯‍♀️ We are so excited to see how many women are involved in empowering themselves and others and all of the campaigns, projects and events happening on campus! We had the opportunity to interact with representatives of many societies, the Entrepreneurship institute and heard stories from many girls on campus who are doing an amazing job.
