The children have enjoyed playing in the garden during the milder days this week. As well as hopping through hoops, balancing on stilts and throwing the beanbags, we have collected materials from the garden to create our own mini habitats as part of our topic work.

For World Book Day last week, the pre-school children visited the main school for a special performance from visiting poet, Justin Coe. In the fun, interactive session, Justin explored rhyming poetry, encouraging the children to join in with sounds, rhymes and silly words.

As well as having plenty of fun, the children enjoyed listening to the poetry recitals. The sessions also helped them develop their imagination and creativity, whilst also helping them discover how enjoyable reading and storytelling can be.

Part of our emergency services theme has included the importance of paramedics, healthcare staff and our first aid kits. We looked at all the different tools in the kit and discussed what they were all used for, how they could benefit us in an accident or emergency situation and emphasised the importance of staying extra safe by washing our hands during any first aid situation.

The children have been rescuing small world models from an explosion of goo, as part of our topic on emergency services and helping other people.

We have been focussing on people who help us and learning how to call for emergency services.

We used our small world models to create a role play area that encourages the children to act and speak in a way that helps others. We observed the different characters and recognised a fireman, a builder and member of the army.

Role playing is great for the childrens' imaginations as they act out different scenarios and characters to explore the world, build social and cognitive skills, and develop confidence. It's a way for them to learn and practice important skills like communication, teamwork, empathy, and problem-solving in a fun and creative way.
