At Simply Learning Tuition, student wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do. With increased anxiety in children and adolescents and exams looming, we have engaged guest writer Meredith Husen from Create Calm Learning to contribute to our Advice for Parents pages with her article, 'Supporting Anxious Learners'. With a background in psychology, teaching and counselling, Meredith's practical article explores the ways we can support anxious learners, no matter the cause.

It is often said that the US and UK are "two countries separated by a common language." Nowhere is this more true than in higher education. In this webinar, US Admissions counsellor Rachel Edgell explains the US university application process from a UK perspective. What exactly are the differences between US and UK universities? When should students start planning their US applications? How does the Common App differ from UCAS? Rachel will shed light on some best practices for families and students interested in studying in the US.

Thank you to Heathside school Hampstead for a wonderfully insightful afternoon. We had the pleasure of meeting teachers, senior leadership, parents, and children on our tour with Headteacher Katherine Vintiner. Everyone we met was a testament to the exceptional ethos and family feel of the school. Children at Heathside benefit from a truly topic-based teaching approach and individual attention from ages 2 to 13. The nurturing and incredibly tailored environment enables children to reach their potential both creatively and academically. Heathside families include those who want to move onto competitive schools at 11 and 13, and those who don’t with all through routes to partner secondary schools. We were particularly impressed with the school's exceptional online teaching provision during lockdown (meaning most children were ahead rather than the average of 4 months to a year behind), implementation of parental feedback, focus on mental well-being, and healthily and gently preparing students for the 11+ from year 3. Well done Dukes Education!
Location is always a factor but it’s only one element in the jigsaw. Other important considerations are the atmosphere and ethos of the nursery, the experience of the Principal and staff and how many children are in each class. Links with preparatory schools should also be assessed if you’re looking at a nursery as a route to a particular school. It’s also worth remembering that competition for half-day places is always high and that full-day attendance can be particularly helpful if English is not your child's first language. Knightsbridge School is a vibrant and friendly school where pupils enjoy a broad range of opportunities designed to inspire and motivate them at all ages. The school is nurturing but also encourages the children to discover their own individual talents and run with them.
Based in the heart of Knightsbridge, pupils are provided with the guidance and support to become confident, responsible individuals, able to make a positive contribution to society.
The Knightsbridge community has six main aims that are best achieved through teamwork, these are: Atmosphere, Attitude, Autonomy, Achievement, All-Rounder and Action. As a result, pupils excel at all levels and go onto fantastic senior schools.
The broad and engaging curriculum combined with an outstanding range of extra-curricular opportunities allows the children to be creative and curious. Whether they enjoy sport, art, drama or music they will be encouraged to progress. Recently, the children won an award presented by the Duchess of Cornwall in the, 'Poetry Together' event.
Knightsbridge School also has a wonderful commitment to charity and the local community, supported by their Parents’ Association. This year they have supported several local charities including RESTART Lives and Little Village HQ. This fosters a genuine and deep sense of belonging and engagement among pupils with the wider world. There are also four bursaries in each senior year group available for children from the local community to enjoy a KS education.

Aside from representing tutors with academic excellence, strong references and appropriate teaching experience, we also insist on the softer skills, including mentoring. One-to-one tuition presents the opportunity for far more than just academic gain.
