Teach TEFL First was born out of a disillusionment with the current status quo of the TEFL industry. Too often, courses are constructed in a lazy fashion, students are not assisted, jobs are not vetted and legal procedures are not adhered to. Having qualified and taught in the field, the four founders of Teach TEFL First had a desire to revolutionise the TEFL industry. They wrote an engaging online TEFL teaching course based on their own teaching experiences abroad. These courses represent the first step in our mission to change the industry, and challenge the existing establishment. We believe that the goal posts need to shift dramatically, one course at a time! The four founders of Teach TEFL First have an array of skills and experiences that are borne out of their common love of education and travel. Between them, the team are qualified in both TESOL/TEFL and have gained Undergraduate language degrees from UK Universities enabling them to have taught in Europe, South America and the Far East. They have also taken sabbaticals to go travelling around the world and it is this love of exploring that drives them to want to empower others to fulfil their ambitions. All of our moderators have English language degrees and experience teaching English to foreign students, first hand. They understand what it is like to teach foreigners and can support you throughout the course. Our team is trained in TEFL locations around the world, and can offer general advice for travelling, preparation and course selection. We believe having a network of those who ‘went before’ is important to our new joiners, (a bit of a big brother/big sister if you will) because there’s nothing like speaking to students who have actually completed our courses to really understand their benefit. We regularly keep in touch with students graduating from our course, and are very keen on learning from their experiences. By keeping in touch with our alumni, we can tweak our course to the changing conditions that teachers face. Most of our graduates have found work in Asia, with Hong Kong, South Korea, and China the most frequent locations. A number of graduates have also ventured into Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Europe and South America are also viable locations, although the latter can sometimes pay less. OTTSA was founded by Trevor Brindsley and Lesley Walker who between them have over 60 years’ worth of teaching and training experience (www.ottsa.org). Attaining membership with this organisation ensures that TTF have an independent body adjudicating standards, procedures and materials of all our courses on an on-going basis. We like this; it keeps us on our toes. The Online TESOL and TEFL Standards Agency was set up as a result of the educational experiences of online training programs undertaken by our two founding members. OTTSA is dedicated to providing online TESOL and TEFL course participants with accurate and reliable information regarding the quality of courses provided by the institutions they moderate. Attaining a TEFL certificate is only valuable if you can actually put it to use, and to this end, we work with agencies around the world to ensure that our candidates are granted at least one interview. We believe in the quality of our courses and know that if our students can pass the course, then they’re good enough to be selected for positions. Obviously the competition for places becomes harder if English is not your native language or you do not hold a University degree, but it’s not impossible. Although we cannot guarantee you a job, we can come close! We offer a guaranteed interview with an agency or school, conducted over skype at a time convenient for yourself. It is out sincere belief that you will be able to find a decent job within the TEFL world - we have not had a problem finding someone a position so far!
