💙 Welcome back! 💙

The start of a new academic year always brings a special sense of anticipation and Tuesday felt particularly memorable as we welcomed our newest Year 7 pupils to for their induction day. It is always wonderful to see the beginnings of new friendships and new journeys taking shape and we know every pupil will weave her unique thread through the tapestry of our FHS community. ✨

As well as a series of icebreaker games and fun activities, the girls enjoyed lunch in our new Dining Hall! It is lighter, brighter and has been designed with pupil wellbeing at its heart with natural materials and biophilic design elements to create an environment that will encourage belonging and provide greater flexibility for a range of school activities beyond lunchtime. 🍽️👩‍🍳

We are hugely grateful to our amazing Facilities Team and all those who have been working tirelessly throughout the summer to ensure the Dining Hall is ready for the start of term - a real team effort. We are also hugely grateful to all those who have donated so generously to support this project, allowing us to complete it well ahead of schedule. 🙌

There are several more exciting ‘Unlocking the Potential’ developments to our campus masterplan in the pipeline in the run up to our 150th School Birthday... watch this space! 🤩

As GCSE Results Day arrives, we are delighted to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2026. 🎉

This year’s results reflect an exceptional level of academic accomplishment, with 46% of all grades awarded at Grade 9, 75% at Grades 9-8, and more than 90% at Grades 9-7. 37% of the year group achieved Grades 8 or 9 in every GCSE they took.

These outcomes are a tribute to the determination, perseverance and ambition shown by our pupils throughout their time at FHS, alongside the dedication of their teachers and the steadfast encouragement of their families.

Academic results tell only part of the story. This year group has enriched every aspect of school life, among them performers, sporting competitors, artists, scholars, linguists and leaders.

We congratulate our pupils on their achievements and look forward to seeing all that they accomplish as they continue their journey through the Sixth Form and beyond.

Congratulations to our Class of 2026! ✨👩‍🎓✨

It has been another year of wonderful academic success at Francis Holland Sloane Square, with 22% of all grades at A* and 88% at A*-B. These grades are a reflection of the ambition, hard work and resilience of our students and we hope every single one of them finds time over the next few days to reflect, with pride, on what they have achieved in their time at FHS. They are also the result of the meaningful and collaborative relationships the girls share with their teachers, who have put an extraordinary amount of care, compassion and challenge into their work with this cohort, as well as the same from their families who have supported them and us throughout their time with FHS.

It has been also been an incredible year for the EPQ, both in terms of results and the ambition and variety of the projects. With 51% of all grades at A* and 83* at A*-A, these are our best ever EPQ results. This success is all the sweeter because the EPQ is a truly independent project that develops skills vital to their futures at university and the workplace.

Whilst we proudly publish our students’ achievements in this form each year, we must also take care not to lose sight of the individual under a mound of statistics. The Class of 2026 is made up of 70 unique and fearless young women, who are ready to go out into the world and to make their mark on it. These grades are sending them off on a bewildering array of different adventures. Whether they are off to Oxbridge, top Russell Group universities, leading US and European universities or top art and drama schools, each and every one of our students leaves us to begin the next stage of their adventure, equipped with the academic and pastoral skills needed to tackle whatever life throws at them.

With their dazzling array of interests and passions and futures, these girls are the embodiment of what we do at FHS. We could not be prouder of them and wish them every success in the next chapters of their lives. 💙

to our Lower Sixth mathematicians’ trip to sunny Florence, where the girls spent four unforgettable days immersing themselves in the cultural, mathematical and scientific achievements of the Renaissance. 🧮🇮🇹🌞

Hear directly from our Maths Prefects about everything they learnt...

“Our journey began with a brief stop in Pisa, where we all tried our hand at “propping up” the Leaning Tower for the perfect photo. Once in Florence, we took part in a walking tour, learning about influential figures such as Galileo and Leonardo da Vinci, as well as the Medici family, whose patronage helped the sciences and arts to flourish. Highlights included visits to the Galileo Museum, where we examined early navigational and medical instruments, and the Leonardo Interactive Museum, which allowed us to engage directly with da Vinci’s mechanical designs. Another memorable moment was the challenging 463-step climb to the top of the Duomo, where we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the city.

Alongside our focus on mathematics and science, we explored Florence’s rich artistic heritage. At the Galleria dell’Accademia, we observed Michelangelo’s David, appreciating its remarkable anatomical precision and scale. This was followed by a visit to the Uffizi Gallery, where we admired masterpieces such as Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Caravaggio’s Medusa, as well as the intricately decorated ceilings of the gallery itself.

Beyond our busy itinerary, we experienced the local culture through sampling traditional cuisine and browsing the lively street markets. On our final evening, we visited Piazzale Michelangelo, where we enjoyed panoramic views of Florence at sunset. The trip brought our classroom studies vividly to life, leaving us with a lasting appreciation of how closely art and science are intertwined.” 🎨✨🧬

to our ‘Her Story’ Gala at the Corinthia Hotel, London. Held in the stunning windowed ballroom, it was a truly memorable evening that brought together our school community in celebration and support of our shared vision. 💃🏼🪩💙

Amongst beautiful giant paper flower creations, arriving guests welcomed each other and clinks of champagne glasses filled the stunning space. We were delighted to receive a surprise visit from Tower of London’s Head Beefeater, and his bellowing call of welcome saw guests ushered into the ballroom to find their tables for dinner, where they dined on a lovely summer’s menu.

Delivering an inspiring speech, our Head, Mrs Haydon, reflected on the opportunities available to our girls while sharing her exciting vision for the future of Francis Holland Sloane Square: to be a school where every girl belongs, believes and becomes the young woman she hopes to be: inspired to dream fiercely and move confidently into the world with purpose. Her thoughtful words were also a fitting introduction for the evening’s lively silent auction, featuring amazing lots from private visits to the Tower of London’s famous Key Ceremony to equine days with Mr and Mrs Haydon. Beyond the fundraising, the evening held music, dancing and conversation. It was a wonderful opportunity for parents, alumni and staff to connect, forge new friendships and celebrate all that makes our community so special. ✨

We are immeasurably grateful to our Sloane Square Parents’ Association and Development for organising such an unforgettable evening, which smashed fundraising targets and raised an incredible total to contribute to our transformational bursary campaign, the Promise Campaign, and our exciting ‘Unlocking the Potential’ developments to our campus masterplan. 🙌

🎨 𝗔 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 🎨

Throwback to 18th June, when pupils, parents, alumni and staff filled the room for our annual A Level Art Show. The talent on display from our A Level artists was extraordinary, many of whom are going off to study at prestigious art schools around the globe.

This year’s show carried extra weight: it was our wonderful Head of Art, David Edes’s final show before he retires this summer after 23 years at Francis Holland. Mr Edes has shaped and inspired generations of artists, and is loved by pupils for his warmth as much as his expertise. Mrs Haydon paid tribute to his incredible contribution, and he was presented with a beautiful portrait painted by our own Dr Upcott.

Thank you, Mr Edes, for 23 remarkable years. 🖼️

💡 𝗧𝗲𝗱𝘅 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 🎤

We are so proud of our Lower Sixth students who presented a TEDx talk last week. This year’s theme was “What If...?” and our audience were treated to an extraordinary range of talks, including “What if we could speak to animals?”, “What if Europeans never colonised the United States?”, “What if our creativity is in decline?” and “What if we reinvented the ‘mad woman’ in literature?”

The girls were guided brilliantly by our debate coach, Maria Garan, and should be extremely proud of their achievements: original, creative and professional.

The talks will be uploaded to the TEDx YouTube channel in September, so watch this space!
