Makerversity

Makerversity Makerversity - Factory-On-Thames, is a shared work space for start-up making and manufacturing businesses, and applied learning opportunities.

Makerversity is a work space for start-up making and manufacturing businesses, and applied learning opportunities. We provide access to a range of fabrication and prototyping tools, spaces, event and learning facilities. We exist to support emerging practice, learning and employability opportunities for young people and kick-start the Third Industrial Revolution in the heart of London. Makerversity members have options, from desks in a shared space to self contained rooms and units. We have clean space and messy space, noisy space and quiet space. Our only stipulation is that if you work here, you make things, be they digital, physical, or anything in between.

1. Jin Xie is a London-based multidisciplinary designer and artist working across spatial design, sound, and interactive installation. Her practice explores cultural identity and displacement through sensory experiences. Exhibited at Arts Electronica, KIKK Festival, and the V&A, she joins Makerversity's Under 30s residency to expand into furniture design and circular material experimentation.

2. Lily Dixon is a London-based embroidery designer working predominantly with digital embroidery, exploring the cross-section between its traditional roots and modern techniques. Welcome to the newest cohort of the Black Designers and Makers Residency! ✨

Introducing resident Shareef Garcia ✨

A British-born African Caribbean multi-disciplinary designer whose work is rooted in storytelling and heritage. Shareef translates culture into print, illustration and objects. Sampling and remixing existing materials to give them a new narrative while still carrying their previous history.

His work connects with audiences who share similar experiences, or who are curious to explore them, transforming abstract themes and everyday objects into something deeply relatable.

During his residency, Shareef is fuelling his passion for making physical pieces alongside his design studio digging deeper into culture, history and identity through the work of his hands.

He's already hit the ground running, picking up new skills like sewing and completing his first project from start to finish: a duffle bag made entirely from scratch. 🙌

Follow Shareef's journey over on his page and find out about our other residents on our blog.
