On the last day students heard from panelists from all different engineering departments in Imperial! Many brilliant questions came through, our future engineers have now gained more in depth insights about life at uni and studying engineering! ✅

Day 2+3 of the Y9 Girls Engineering Summer School.

Students heard from multiple departments including bioengineering, computing and design engineering. There was also a talk about A-level choices so our future engineers can now make a more informed decision! ☺️

In the afternoon, students joined a workshop held by the mechanical engineering department, where they produced isometric sketching of their own. ✍️

Today is the first day of the Y9 Girls Engineering Summer School Programme.

40 girls are first welcomed by an introductory talk, which is then followed by a mentor session.
Students completed quizzes both individually and with the guidance of their mentors to gain a better understanding of studying engineering in university.

This afternoon they will be taking part in an aeronautical workshop!

And that’s a wrap! We’ve come to the end of our Year 10 online Summer School 2021. ✅

It’s been amazing to have so many amazing students join us and see what life in STEM is like. We’ve explored the range of sciences and all forms of engineering. From wacky home experiments to careers talks, we’ve had a jam packed few days. 🧑‍🔬

Day 3 of our Year 10 Online Summer School! 🤩

And what a day it’s been! Our scientists have been explore a range of the natural sciences. 🧪

In biology we’ve been getting green fingered as we explore photosynthesis. Our students have been exploring the different factors influencing the rates of photosynthesis. We’ve even managed to sneak in some graph work to be able to see these effects! 🌱

Some may even say our Summer School is out of this world! In the afternoon we’ve been looking at the physics of the universe. We’ve been reaching for the stars as our students have looked at constellations and just how much we still have left to discover about space! 🌍

Day 2 of our Year 10 Online Summer School Today! 🎉

Now our ambassadors and students are familiar with each other, we’re splitting the group into scientists and engineers.

Our science students have been very innovative, making their own indicators and testing the pH of different substances around the house. We’ve been getting scientific with turmeric, coffee and washing powder - just to name a few things.

Our engineering students have been designing the ultimate creature! Using their expert knowledge of bones, bridges, and structural support systems, we’ve been looking at making a creature to handle numerous tasks. Maybe, we might need the students to create the ultimate creature to help us behind the busy scenes of running the summer school!

We’re kicking off with our Year 10 Online Summer School Today! 🎉

After our initial tech checks, our mentors and students have been getting to know each other better and ask as many questions as possible. A great way to see what like as a student at top university is like! 👩‍🎓👨‍🎓🧑‍🎓

We had some great talks lined up with week! We’re starting with understanding animal research this afternoon. Later, we’ll also be learning more about how to choose A-Level subjects, future careers and even an evening social!

Our students will have the opportunity to explore some of the subjects we offer at Imperial such as Design Engineering, Biology and Mechanical Engineering just to name a few.

Year 12 Sutton Trust Summer School

In Molecular Bioengineering, the students were challenged to investigate the behaviour of hydrogels in different solutions🧪, and observed how the hydrogel is able to respond to the salinity of its environment. This then lead to a talk about how the properties of hydrogels can be explored in the medical field for applications such as drug delivery💊, brain-machine interfaces 🧠and therapeutics.🏥

Please note that this summer school is running remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
