🎨 Alumni spotlight: from The Royal Ballet School to Slade School of Fine Art, Jake Walker has expanded his artistry across creative industries. 🎨
Jake recently returned to the School for the first time in over a decade reflecting on how his early dance training has led to a broader creative career and artistic practice intertwining fine art and choreography.
'I think about the marks I make on the canvas and how that mark could be translated into movement. It's like I’m making this painting as a notation or graphic score that could be used with dancers to create a dance work.’
After completing a BA at Slade School of Fine Art, Jake has had a painting residency in Los Angeles and solo exhibitions in London and New Zealand. He recently collaborated with fellow alum Charlotte Edmonds on a workshop for participants to translate drawings into dance.

🎉 In review: our 2026 Summer Performance at the Royal Opera House 🎉
The final show of our Centenary Summer Performance season on the 18 July was a triumphant display of what our talented young dancers are capable of as we celebrated both the heritage and future of the School.
‘I left the RBO with soaring soul and the conviction that British ballet couldn’t be in better hands. Happy Birthday, Royal Ballet School, and here’s to the next 100 years.’
- Teresa Guerreiro, London Unattached

✨ Part two: the making of A Line in Relection by Cathy Marston ✨
For our centenary Summer Performances, we welcomed Cathy Marston (alum, choreographer and Director of Ballett Zürich) back to the School to choreograph a new work on our 2nd Year students.
Inspired by the journey our students take through the School and her experiences as a choreographer, Cathy created a piece incorporating Baroness Deborah Bull (alum and former Principal dancer with The Royal Ballet) who made her return to the stage for these special performances.
