On the 8th of July, ICUMS collaborated with Imperial College Business School to host Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai, Executive Chairman and Founder of Top Glove Corporation Bhd during his working visit to Imperial College London.

The talk, featuring Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai himself and his son, Lim Jin Feng, was themed Positive Values in Entrepreneurship. During the one-hour session, Mr. Lim Jin Feng gave the audience a concise introduction into Top Glove’s identity, philosophies as well as products and innovation. On the other hand, Tan Sri Dr. Lim touched upon his life journey from his humble beginnings to the successful businessman he is today. He gave the audience an insight into the global market, and how his ideals and philosophies transformed Top Glove into the world’s largest glove manufacturer as of today.

Overall, the event was attended by 52 individuals (20 on campus and 32 virtually), composed of students from ICUMS and Chemical Engineering department as well as representatives from the Business School.

ICUMS is extremely grateful to have hosted one of the most prominent business leaders in Malaysia, and we are actively looking forward to greater collaborations and partnerships in the future.

Another year has gone by…and it’s time for ICUMS to transcend into a new era.

All of us from the ICUMS Executive Committee of 2021/2022 would like to congratulate the candidates who’ve been successfully elected to take over our roles! 🥳🔥 We wish you all the best in your upcoming tenure, and can’t wait to see ICUMS rise to new heights under your direction. 🥰

We would also like to send our sincerest regards to the candidates that weren’t elected - don’t be disheartened; in fact, allow us to genuinely thank all of you for bravely stepping up to the elections with all your bright ideas and initiatives. You all should be proud of yourselves for coming this far! 😊

It has been our honour to lead ICUMS for the past year. Now, it’s time to pass the torch on, and entrust the future of the society to our worthy successors.

With autumn approaching its twilight days 🍂, let’s quickly breeze through what ICUMS has been up to this term! 💨

Our Welcome Reception and Buffet in October marked the beginning of a new chapter ☀️; as new faces were welcomed into our enormous, wholesome Malaysian community 🇲🇾, and old friends were reunited over a pleasurable time at Aroma Buffet. 🍔😋

Up next was an online engagement session held in conjunction with UCLMSOC, LSESUMC and our platinum sponsor Creador, where participants discovered and explored interesting aspects regarding Private Equity. 💼 Our annual Amazing Race then saw buddy families racing across London outdoors 🏃, completing a variety of tasks from slapping ddakjis to doing c̶r̶i̶n̶g̶e̶y̶ iconic poses. 😬

Members then got a taste of authentic Indian food (and a questionable fruit platter 🤨) during our Deepavali Dinner in November. 🪔 Film and theatre enthusiasts enjoyed themselves at our very first Movie Night and Theatre Trip in the same month - Eternals and Les Miserables respectively. 🤩🎬

December kicked off with a second showdown between buddy families 🏆 as they cooked up a storm in their kitchens, before presenting and enjoying a plethora of dishes at our Buddy Family Potluck and Board Games Night. 🍜🤤 Our second Theatre Trip to The Book of Mormon was also a massive success, and we rounded off the Autumn Term with another amazing Movie Night - Spider-Man: No Way Home. 🎥🕸️

Many thanks to everyone for your continuous support! 🙏 You guys are our motivation - it's truly delightful to see all your cheerful smiles at our events. 😁 Stay warm and stay safe - we’ll be back next term with more exciting stuff in store for y’all! 🔥

As this academic year comes to a close ⌛, here’s a quick recap on what ICUMS has been up to since the end of spring up to this summer term! 😁

With the COVID pandemic gradually improving in the UK 🇬🇧, restrictions have been slowly eased up, providing ICUMS several golden opportunities to bring back some long-awaited physical events! 🤩 Of course, guidelines were still followed at all times, to ensure the health and safety of our members.

Things started off in April with a ‘Malaysian Meetup’, an internal event catered specially for this year’s freshers to meet one another in person for the very first time, and enjoy a chill picnic with some classic Malaysian food. 🇲🇾

Shortly after was a trip to Kew Gardens 🌻, where members got a chance to unwind by exploring numerous beautiful landmarks in the garden itself; and an online engagement session with our sponsor EY, held in conjunction with LSESUMC and ICAAM. 💼

Summer exam care packages were distributed in May to ensure our members were happy and well throughout exam season! 😊 Also in June, our MNight film, ‘Bound’ was showcased in the Malaysian Student Film Festival 🎬, and we wrapped up with a festive event - Raya Open House. 🌙

A massive THANK YOU to everyone for continuing to support ICUMS! 🙏 We know that the past year has not been easy, but we hope that ICUMS remains your home away from home by continuously bringing you guys joy, happiness and a sense of belonging. 🥰

To our outgoing leavers - we sincerely wish you all the best for your future; and to the rest of our members, we hope to bring you even more excitement in the coming academic year! ✨

- ICUMS Committee 2021/22

There goes another year for ICUMS, where various virtual events were held, bridging the gap between our members while staying within the safety and comfort of our own homes. This term started off with a relaxing yoga session followed by a dumpling cook-along session. Soon after was our CNY celebration and Care-for-all session with other Msocs and UKEC. Last but not least, we had another 2 sponsor engagement session with Creador and Keysight.

Although not how we expected our term to go we step down with only gratefulness and hope within our hearts. We would like to express our gratitude towards our sponsors, affliates and most importantly our members for being patient and supportive throughout this period of heavy experimentation and uncertainty. We hope ICUMS remains your home away from home (despite most of you actually still being at home)!

We place great faith in the newly elected ICUMS committee of 2021/22. We hope you thrive and look forward to what the next academic year has in store for us!
