Diana Washbourne - PRINCIPAL 🥳👏🏽

Diana has been the Principal of the Glenlyn Academy for over 50 years, an Examiner with the NATD for over 40 years, and a veteran lecturer. Diana is among the most experienced performing arts teachers in the country.
A Glenlyn alumni herself – Diana started classes at the Academy at the age of three under the tutorage of Miss Ruby Jiggens. Through Glenlyn, Diana gained her professional teaching qualifications before leaving the Academy to embark on a three-year teaching course in Oxford. On returning to London, Diana was appointed as a teacher at Glenlyn.
As well as teaching, Diana is a published writer, having written the book ‘Basic Tap Dancing’. This book features photographs of Glenlyn students. She is an experienced dance lecturer and travels around the country giving dance master classes.
Outside of Diana’s duties at the Academy, she is also an Examiner with the NATD, travelling across the country examining dance students. She is a member of the NATD’s Tap Committee, which assesses and develops current dance syllabi and trends. She is also a member of the NATD’s London Area Theatrical Committee organising workshops, congress events and teacher training days. On behalf of everyone thank you for all of your hard work 🫶🏻




An accomplished Director, Musical Director, Choreographer, Producer and Examiner. Ben has worked extensively in both theatre and television.

As the Academy’s Vice-Principal & Creative Director, Ben is responsible for overseeing the artistic and strategic development of the Academy.

Ben joined the Academy in 2005, teaching the only three Musical Theatre, Drama and Singing Classes at the school. This has now increased to more than 34 classes a week with the majority of students now taking classes in these disciplines.

Ben is responsible for directing all of the Academy’s productions, which over the last five years has included performances in the West End, Disneyland Paris and at The O2.

As an Examiner for LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), Ben travels across the country assessing students in Acting and Musical Theatre. Ben is also a member of the LAMDA Performance Syllabus Review Board and the LAMDA Acting Diploma Review and Assessment Board.

Ben graduated from Lancaster University – the country’s leading Theatre Studies institution – with an Honours degree in Contemporary Theatre Studies in 2005. He is also a qualified dance teacher having gained the Licentiate Qualification (Distinction) in both Jazz and Tap.

Alongside Ben’s role at Glenlyn Academy, he is also Head of Programming at GB News.

Grace started dancing at Glenlyn when she was 4 and continued there until she was 18. She trained at the Brit school and then did her vocational training at The Urdang Academy where she completed her degree in professional dance and musical theatre. Since graduating she worked on a number of professional projects including modelling for ‘Exuberance’, working on the ‘Ghosted’ feature film and was a dancer for Bor Productions onboard an MSC Cruise ship.
Grace has been teaching ballet and jazz at Glenlyn Academy since 2019.

A Fellow and examiner of the NATD, with 15 years teaching and performing experience.
Jackie is a qualified dance teacher in tap, modern, ballet and freestyle and teaches these disciplines at foundation level at the Academy.
Jackie’s theatre performance credits include a production of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ (Dance Ensemble) at the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon, and ‘Mamma Mia’ (Tanya) at the Broadway Theatre, London.
Jackie is a licensed Melody Bear®️ teacher. This is a dance syllabus designed to introduce dance and movement to young children using the natural actions of the body. The syllabus aids children’s physical development, spatial awareness, creativity and self-expression.
As well as teaching at the Glenlyn Academy Jackie has setup and now runs her own business. She teaches dance in nursery schools where Melody Bear®️ comes to life and takes the children into her magical world of dance, song and movement. Jackie also runs a number of dance sessions in both state and private schools.

Hannah has been involved in music, dance, drama and performing in general since the tender age of four! She is a performer, teacher, chorus leader and Musical Director with a degree in music and licentiate performing diploma.
As an MD, she has worked on a range of shows from Sondheim (Sweeney Todd) to Madness (Our House) including Chess, Little Shop of Horrors, Guys and Dolls, Lend me a Tenor, Whistle down the Wind, Made in Dagenham and Side Show, many of which have won NODA awards.
As a performer, she started more in the classical world with a highlight being a run of Mozart heroines in a series of lecture recitals at the Purcell Room in the South Bank. Lately her performing has been more focused around musical theatre, ranging from Maria in West Side Story to the title role in Gigi. Most recently she was seen treading the boards as Joyce in Betty Blue Eyes at the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks in 2017.
Teaching has always been a part of her musical life and she was delighted to join the staff at Glenlyn having been MD for some of their shows

A Member of the NATD and a teacher at the Academy for over 25 years, Sarah has taught Ballet, Tap and Modern to students of all ages and abilities.

Sarah is the Academy’s Adult Class Co-ordinator, teaching Tap and Modern to students above the age of 18.

Clare Sandy - CLASS TEACHER 👩‍🏫 💃🏽

A member of the Academy for over 30 years, Clare has 20 years experience of teaching Ballet, Tap, Modern and Street Jazz classes.
Clare is one of the faculty teaching on our very popular ‘1st Steps’ programme, giving children as young as two years old an introduction to dance, song and performance.
Clare’s choreography credits include productions at The O2, Her Majesty’s Theatre and the world famous London Palladium. Clare also choreographs for Glenlyn Academy’s productions.
As well as teaching, Clare assists the senior management team with the day to day running of the academy and ensures new students are enrolled into their classes.

Happy 10th birthday to our GA Chislehurst studios!🥳




Katie started dancing at a very young age. She has performed in many theatres across the country and been involved in the staging of many shows both on stage and behind the scenes. She has also choreographed for many musicals and other productions.
Katie studied at Millennium Performing Arts gaining a Trinity Diploma in Musical Theatre. Katie started gaining her dance qualifications at a young age and studied the ISTD syllabus where she currently holds DDI’s and DDE’s in Tap, Ballet and Modern.
Katie continued her career as a company director for a performing arts school where she was a joint partner in the business and successfully saw the business grow from a few children to over 200. As part of this challenge she successfully led performances and competition wins globally. Performances were directed and choreographed on board the MSC Opera cruise around Norway where a group of children performed. Competition wins at Disneyland Paris as part of a European Dance trip gaining 8 awards. Katie was also instrumental in taking a group of students to perform at Dance Excellence in Los Angeles where they achieved three first places and two second places in a global contest.
As Glenlyn Academy Chislehurst Studio Manger Katie is responsible for teaching many classes at Chislehurst and also ensures the smooth running of the studios dealing with all aspects of student welfare as well as liaising with parents. As well as this she also teaches at our Sydenham studios.
Alongside Katie’s role at Glenlyn Academy, she is also a primary school teacher. On behalf of all of the GA family thank you for all of your hard work 🫶🏻



Amy Higgins🩰 / Assistant Principal 🤓

Amy trained at Glenlyn Academy gaining a Distinction in her Associate Modern, Associate Gymnastic Dance, Licentiate Tap and Fellowship Ballet teaching qualifications.
As well as teaching Foundation through to Advanced students at Glenlyn Academy, Amy has also taken on creative responsibility for choreographing many of the Academy’s productions.
As a ballet dancer Amy’s teaching focuses on developing a strong sense of technique. Her classes help students to develop skills in fitness, flexibility, posture and performance.
As Glenlyn Academy’s Assistant Principal, Amy has responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of the Academy. This includes student enrolment and registration, parental communication, Academy productions and assisting the Senior Management Team.
Previously, she worked at Freed of London where she combined her teaching experience with expert knowledge on dance equipment, working with many of the world’s leading dancers.
Alongside Amy’s roles at Glenlyn Academy, she is now also a primary school teacher.

Jake trained at Italia Conti where he obtained a level 6 diploma in Musical theatre. Upon graduating Jake has taken the industry by storm with all of the amazing things he has done across theatre, film and tv. Jake’s endless experiences allows him to feed the students so much knowledge and for that we are very grateful.

Yvonne Tull - NATD 🤸‍♂️ / ONLINE STORE MANAGER 🖥️

Yvonne started her journey taking classes at Glenlyn academy when she was only 3 years old. Fast forwarding to age 17 she received her first professional dance teaching qualification in tap, and continued to gain additional qualifications in Ballet and Modern.

Yvonne teaches acrobatics, Jazz and Ballet at Glenlyn academy and is devoted to ensuring the students go from strength to strength within their classes. As one of Glenlyn academy’s longest serving teachers with over 30 years teaching experience, we appreciate and value your expertise.

Yvonne also manages the online store which includes creating relationships with suppliers, monitoring sales and more.

Yvonne continuously invests wholeheartedly into the progression of Glenlyn academy and this shines through her students. On Behalf of the GA family we want to say thank you 🫶🏻




Arethajay is a dancer, choreographer and teacher who started her journey with Glenlyn academy at age 3- 17, Continuing her journey at bird College of Dance, music and theatre performance. Upon graduating Arethajay dived straight into commercial dance, tv and film performing or choreographing for artists and productions such as Stormzy, Ayra starr, Raye, Tems, Rema, Lous and the Yakuza, BGT, National Social media awards and more. Whilst doing that Arethajay has also launched into the Musical theatre world performing in the original cast of SoundClash : Death in the arena the Musical.

Arethajay always had a fire for being creative even whilst she was training at Bird College, as she assisted creatives such as Simeon Qsyea and Thomas Ashton on performances such as Move It. With these experiences Arethajay knew one day she would transition into a choreographer which she has done at the very places she found that fire. Choreographing commercial dance pieces for the Annual summer showcases, “I AM” a short episode, which was a celebration of diversity, inclusivity and community, and Move it. Arethajay is also a resident creative on the year 2 dance and performance project at Bird College.

As student development lead at Glenlyn academy Arethajay will be working closely with the senior team to ensure that the students are provided with the best possible training and opportunities in order to give them the best platform for their futures. Arethajay is excited to take on this role as she has always had a desire to educate future artists on more than the traditional techniques. Providing them with industry knowledge and training, giving them the best tools to start a career with success and longevity.

Patricia Crilly - NATD 🩰 / PASTORAL LIAISON 🤗
Patricia started ballet at 3 and joined glenlyn academy as a model student, she then went on to become a fellow of the NATD with teaching qualifications in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Freestyle. With over 35 years experience teaching at Glenlyn academy across all grades in ballet, Patricia is a valuable member of our team.

Patricia is also the lead safeguarding officer at glenlyn academy who is committed to the wellbeing and safety of everyone at Glenlyn Academy.

A Fellow of the NATD, Stephanie has been a dance teacher for over 20 years.

Stephanie is a qualified dance teacher in Tap, Ballet and Modern. An alumni of the Academy, Stephanie started taking lessons at Glenlyn when she was just 9 years old.

At 17 years old, Stephanie qualified as a professional dance teacher, and was soon offered a position on the Academy teaching staff.

A performer herself, Stephanie has performed for over 25 years at venues such as Her Majesty’s Theatre and the London Palladium.
