BTCOTC OPEN CALL - FAMILY ARCHIVES
Brent residents! Share your family photos with community project By The Cut of Their Cloth (BTCOTC) to help us learn more about Brent’s mixed race and multicultural history!
The BTCOTC project is looking to preserve and celebrate the mixed-race and multicultural histories of Brent residents. Can your family photos help us learn more about Brent’s diverse racial past?
We are using fashion as a lens to help us understand and display overlooked in*******al family stories of Brent. So, as well as photos of family members we would love to see your images of jewellery, garments, ornaments, or other family belongings that represent and celebrate the coming together of different races and cultures in Brent families!
A selection of submitted photos will be displayed as part of the BTCOTC digital exhibition hosted by The Mixed Museum in March 2022. For more details or to submit photos, contact us: [email protected]
OPEN CALL DEADLINE SUNDAY 27TH FEBRUARY 2022

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
FORMATTING
There are many ways in which you can document your family photos or items for the project, including taking a picture on your mobile phone, DSLR/digital camera, home scanner or via public photocopying services at public libraries (such as The Library at Willesden Green). It would be helpful if your images are created using a high quality format (preferably 300DPI and in JPEG or PDF). File transfer to our email address ([email protected]) via the free online service We Transfer (www.wetransfer.com) is the best way to send large sized files to us, but you can also send images directly to our email address.
CONSENT
Any member of the public who wishes to contribute their story or image will need to complete our consent form so we can make sure that the information you have shared with the BTCOTC team can safely be stored in our archives or be included in the digital exhibition at The Mixed Museum. We will send you a copy of the consent form if your images will be used publicly in our project. We are happy to answer any questions about how your material will be used - contact us via the email below or talk to us in person at one of our Open Days at The Library at Willesden Green on 15th and 16th January 2022. Please note that we are unable to return any submitted images. Any images that are not used in the project or that we do not receive consent for will be deleted.
OPEN CALL OUTCOMES
Some of the narratives and images shared with the BTCOTC project team will be curated into our digital exhibition hosted by The Mixed Museum. The material collected may also be used in our February half term art and design workshops as talking points or creative inspiration. Our film maker will also use material to create a series of short videos about both the project and Brent’s wider mixed race and multicultural history.
Material may also be offered to Brent Museum and Archives for inclusion in their collections. Additionally, some of the images donated to the project may be used in an installation to celebrate the launch of the exhibition at ASC Alperton Studios. All uses of material offered will be for non-profit and educational use only.
Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us: [email protected]
OUR MISSION
‘By The Cut of Their Cloth’ is a collaborative project between local artist and designer, Warren Reilly (BA Hons) and The Mixed Museum.
The project will explore Brent’s rich multiracial and mixed race history. Workshops and open calls will be conducted to generate imagery and collect narratives that will encourage the local community to delve into family photos and work with relatives to explore and celebrate their own (and Brent’s) wider multicultural and mixed race past, with a particular focus on what the fashion in these photos can tell us about the sitters and the society they lived in.
Through participating in practical workshops in visual research, photography and illustration/image making, we hope that the images and family histories uncovered by the project, as well as the outputs created, will contribute to existing archival collections, such as that held by The Mixed Museum, for future generations to study and enjoy.

Warren Reilly worked very closely with WLS in his photography project in which he documented WLS, with a number of his photos being exhibited and sold of the stables. He was able to do this free of charge due to the connections and friendships that he made when he used to ride there 2 years ago. please sign the petition to save the stables as it is under the threat of closure and it would be a shame to lose this fantastic inner city equestrian center!

Yesterday, artisan saw Dominique and warren saw another great day at the gallery. 3 more photography pieces had been sold by Aishah, Oscar and warren and a painting by Danielle Cookson, making almost 150 pounds which means that were on our way to make over 300 pounds in total! This Means that Artisan 2014 is the most successful exhibition QPCS has brought to artisan yet! Thanks again for everyone's hard work and for the people supporting our exhibition!
