Recipes are great for encouraging children to learn more about measurements 📏 and to practise reading simple instructions. 📖 Here’s a recipe that you can follow with your child. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

NB: Ensure that you always supervise children around a hot oven! 🔥

Coconut Macaroons

Ingredients:
2 eggs, whites only 🥚
80g caster sugar
200g desiccated coconut 🥥
1tsp vanilla paste 🍦
90g dark chocolate 🍫

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (325°F) 🔥. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg whites and caster sugar. Mix well until the mixture is light and frothy and all the sugar has dissolved. Add in the coconut, the vanilla and a pinch of salt, then stir until everything is evenly combined. Leave to stand for 10 minutes.

3. Using a tablespoon or a small ice cream scoop, drop rounded tablespoons of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Space them about 2.5 cm apart.

4. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven 🔥 and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the macaroons are golden brown.

5. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the macaroons cool on the sheet for about 5 minutes.

6. Melt the chocolate gently in a heatproof bowl over simmering water, or in a microwave. Once fully melted, carefully dip the flat bottom of each cooled macaroon in the chocolate and place back on the parchment paper, chocolate side up. Once you have finished all the macaroons put them in the fridge until the chocolate sets.

7. For an extra treat, you can drizzle some left-over melted chocolate across the top of the macaroons. 🍫🥥🍪

8. Store the macaroons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
