🚀 Promising Breakthrough in Fascia Research! 🧬✨

A research team in Virginia, USA has developed a revolutionary microscopic imaging technique that unveils the stunning architecture of the extracellular matrix of fascia like never before! 🔬👀

I can’t help but think that legendary matrix pioneers Alfred Pischinger and Hartmut Heine would have been just as thrilled as I am! 🤩 Can’t wait to see what groundbreaking insights this cutting-edge tool will reveal in the coming years—how the ECM adapts to mechanical forces, biochemical shifts, and other biological influences.

Stay tuned! 🔍🔗 More here: Nature Article

You have 5 arches/curves from head to tail bone.

One of the functions of the arches are to help align your head over the ribcage and pelvis.

If the spine was completely straight you'd have the ribcage much further forward which could make general balance a bit trickier.

The arches serve to dynamically align the head, ribcage and pelvis.

Spinal arches are subtle in some individuals and very pronounced in others so there's a lot of anatomical variability in how these arches present.

Although they serve important functions, this doesn't mean that they are directly associated to pain.

Some studies have drawn correlations to pain and spinal arch angles (Chun et al 2017) while others haven't shown a causal relationship (Nourbaksh et al 2002) and in the world of science correlation definitely doesn't imply a causal dynamic.

So although these arches are important for creating the overall upright alignment of the human body that's always in motion, this isn't a physical characteristic we have to be too concerned about with regards to what is contributing to back/neck pain (unless in extreme cases, always leave room for those).

Although all of the 5 arches are dynamic, two of them (cervical and lumbar) are formed through movement and are especially dynamic.

Focus on moving your arches, not statically aligning them.

Though this may seem like an obvious statement, it’s actually a pretty radical concept. Try asking yourself: How many of the exercises that you do are designed to promote ideal function? A lot of modalities focus on achieving greater flexibility or building muscle, but fall short when it comes to finding the optimal solution for our body.

The Franklin Method takes a different approach. Ideal function comes first – with movement sequences supported by science and evidence-based imagery. With our movement classes, you can truly feel the difference.
