Dear Young Man

𝐐𝟏 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝. 𝐐𝟐 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫. A lot has happened between January and March. ☺️ Started the year apprehensive - on the night of 31st December while everyone was making merry and welcoming the new year, I was holed up in my study at home - watching videos, writing essays, making videos and a financial model - all were part of the latest batch of assignments in the Techstars selection process and the deadline was midnight.

It will take another cycle of this and one more interview for us to hear the good news we were waiting for. We got into Techstars! It has been the ride of a lifetime since. Learning, unlearning, relearning. Meeting life-changing mentors and networking with some of the most brilliant persons in the tech space.

For Q2, we are going to war with everything we’ve been armed with. We will pilot LocumDoc in select hospitals in the UK 🇬🇧 with the goal of saving them thousands of pounds monthly and cutting their waiting lines. We will contribute our own quota to fixing healthcare - one small hospital at a time.

What to expect? More knocking on doors. If you are a service manager or key decision maker in a hospital in the UK, expect me. ☺️ More conversations with our customers - their feedback is what we build into our product. More value created for our doctor network.

Q2 is one of my favourite quarters of the year. Why? The birthdays of my three children fell in it. 🥰 It is also that quarter that helps you recalibrate and can set the tone for the rest of the year. You’ve learnt from the mistakes of Q1 and you still have the time runway to bear fruit.

It is a new month. 🎉

Fun fact: Before Sanjith was born, both of his parents moved to Nigeria 🇳🇬 as teachers and lived there for about 4 years. They still have fond memories of the country.

Many years later, Sanjith and I are working together as Co-Founders and business partners, optimising healthcare delivery through LocumDoc.

Nwanne, as you add a year to your fruitful life, the Lord will bless and keep you. He will strengthen and prosper you and yours.

As the world celebrates Doctors’s Day today, we appreciate these wonderful humans whom we turn to for healing.

Most especially, I celebrate the doctors of LocumDoc who have bought into our vision to eliminate waiting lines in hospitals by ensuring everyone gets to see a doctor promptly. Your efforts at fixing a broken healthcare system is deeply appreciated.

𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐥, 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭. This message rang true for me last night during a Techstars Health event in the Bay Area. I was happy to discuss LocumDoc and the problem we are solving in healthcare with several mentors, legal and VC interests.

Just by being in the tech capital of the world, we have met so many helpful persons - mentors, guides, advisers - who have taken our journey as their own and are sharing their knowledge and network so generously just to see us win. We are deeply grateful and remain committed to end the long waiting lines by solving for acute doctor shortages.

The mentality at 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 is what makes it the best startup accelerator in the world. Happy to be part of this community and will definitely pay it forward. 🙏🏽❤️

𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤, I heard an analogy that captures exactly what building a startup feels like. “It is like jumping off a cliff and trying to assemble a plane before you hit the ground. If you succeed, you mount your plane and fly away to safety. If you fail, you hit the ground and perish.”

So, why do people do it? Choose uncertainty over certainty? My guess is - these persons are addicted to problem-solving in addition to being avid risk-takers. Building a business is a high-risk, high reward situation.

Knowledge and market research can help mitigate that risk, but not remove it. Funding can buy you some time to assemble your plane mid-air. But ultimately, generating revenue consistently and turning a sizeable profit is what gives you wing to fly.

Dear entrepreneur, keep building. Keep pushing.
