We are bringing together the voices of more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK, to form the largest education union in Europe. Combining the expertise and experience of both ATL and the NUT, we are an effective and powerful voice in education. Your interactions on this page along with any direct messa

The earthquake that struck western Colombia has killed at least 181 people and injured over 1,300. Both figures are expected to rise as rescue crews continue searching for survivors.

Justice for Colombia (JFC), who the NEU is affiliated with, has launched an emergency fundraising appeal to support its partner organisations and wider relief efforts. The earthquake’s widespread destruction has damaged homes and public infrastructure, including hospitals and schools.

Chocó, where the earthquake was felt most strongly, is the poorest region in Colombia. The disaster is now expected to deepen existing challenges as communities lose access to healthcare and other essential services.

Schools have been left to find £460 million from existing budgets to cover teacher pay awards.

That means hard choices for schools.

The government still has time to do the right thing. Fully fund teacher pay, protect school budgets and give children and young people the education they deserve.

From 3 October, members will be asked to vote on strike action.

Our members have a message for Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

Every day, educators see the impact of underfunded schools. They know the challenges, they know the solutions and they're calling for action to properly fund education.

With our formal ballot for strike action opening on 3 October, there is still time for the government to step up and deliver the properly funded education system our young people deserve.

Given the extreme benefits that the arts can have in young people’s lives, they should be treated as a curriculum staple – and not a last resort.

At the Festival of Education, we spoke to Wellbeing specialist at , Stefan, on how the arts can act to provide a space of development and positive psychological wellbeing for young people from marginalised communities.
