Playback theatre is an original form of improvisational theatre in which audience members tell stories from their lives and watch them enacted on the spot. Founded in 1975, playback theatre is practiced in hundreds of locations and contexts around the world. The School of Playback Theatre (UK), in association with the Centre for Playback Theatre (USA), offers a comprehensive training for all levels of experience. These range from Core Training for newcomers, to a variety of Selected Topics, and then to the five-day Advanced Skills & ten-day Playback Theatre Practice advanced level courses which precede the three-week Leadership Course with Jonathan Fox (the founder and artistic director of the original Playback Theatre company). Training in Playback Theatre can also be custom-designed for specific communities and contexts. These can be sessions introducing playback, or a series of workshops towards launching a playback theatre company, followed by supervision and mentoring. About the Centre for Playback Theatre
The Centre for Playback Theatre was created to support the ethical and artistic development of Playback Theatre worldwide. Founded by Jonathan Fox in 1993 as the School of Playback Theatre, it became a non-profit organization in 2006 as CPT offering comprehensive international training, serving as an educational resource, and supporting practitioners through its network of company partners, accredited trainers, and affiliate Schools of Playback Theatre around the world.
