As November comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all the progress made this month. Every worksheet completed, every new word learnt and every problem solved is a step toward becoming a more confident, motivated and independent learner.

At First Class Learning, we know that small, steady steps add up to big achievements. We’re proud of the effort our learners put in week after week, building skills that will last a lifetime.

Now, as we move into December, it’s time to set fresh goals and keep that momentum going right through to the end of term. 🚀

👏 Well done to all our learners for their hard work this month – let’s make December even more successful!

Cooking is a brilliant way to practise maths! 🥧

Try this easy Apple Crumble recipe with your child this weekend:

🥄 Let them calculate the ingredients – great for learning units of measurement
🍎 Double or halve the recipe – perfect for practising ratios
⏰ Time the baking – teaches time and estimation

Ingredients:
● 4 large Bramley apples (about 800g) – peeled, cored, and sliced
● 100g caster sugar (plus a little extra for sprinkling)
● 175g plain flour
● 100g unsalted butter (cold, cut into cubes)
● 75g light brown sugar
● ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Method:
1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C fan)
2. Prepare the apples: Place the sliced apples in an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle with caster sugar and a little cinnamon if you like.
3. Make the crumble topping: In a large bowl, rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips until it looks like breadcrumbs.
4. Stir in the brown sugar.
5. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples.
6. Bake: Pop in the oven for 35–40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
7. Serve: Best enjoyed warm with custard or ice cream! 🍨

Dark evenings make the perfect reading time! 📖☕
Encouraging your child to read for pleasure boosts imagination, vocabulary and confidence. However, it is important to find a book that interests them. It can be about their hobbies, their favourite TV show, or even books that give them skills for their favourite computer game. 🌟

💡 Tip: Create a “cosy reading corner” at home with a blanket, lamp and snacks to make reading special.

Science is all around us, from the changing colours of autumn leaves to the way the stars shine at night. Encouraging children to ask “why?” and “how?” builds curiosity, problem-solving skills and a love of learning that goes beyond the classroom.
At First Class Learning our science programme helps build the knowledge they need to explore the world by questioning, testing and discovering. 🌍
Whether it’s conducting a fun experiment at home or tackling a tricky topic in class, nurturing a curious mind today opens the door to tomorrow’s opportunities.

Returning to school after the half-term break is the perfect time to reflect on progress and look ahead to what we want to achieve. At First Class Learning, we believe that setting clear, realistic goals helps children develop into confident, motivated and independent learners.
This November, why not sit down with your child and talk about:
📌 One thing you’d like to get even better at in maths, English or science
📌 A skill you’d like to practise at home or in class
📌 A new challenge you’d like to try before the end of term

Small steps each week add up to big achievements, and celebrating progress along the way keeps motivation high.

Let’s make this month about learning with purpose and building confidence.
