Before your child reads a single word, they need to hear thousands of them. 📖✨
Every story we tell in a Debutots session isn’t just fun - it’s building the neural scaffolding for reading. Vocabulary. Comprehension. The ability to hold a narrative in mind and follow where it leads.
Listening to stories is how children learn that language has shape - a beginning, a tension, an ending. That’s not just literacy. That’s how readers are made.
Our sessions give little ones the auditory foundation that turns “learning to read” from a struggle into a natural next step.

A new term. A new world. And a very grumpy gardener.
This week we’re opening the door on Springtime in the Garden — our first story block of the summer term — and we couldn’t think of a better way to begin than with Ella Ewe 🐑
She’s got something to say. The gardener isn’t happy about it. And things are about to get interesting.
We can’t wait to see what our little storytellers make of them both.
We hope you’ve had a good Spring break and are looking forward to a gorgeous summer. I took the chance to spend a few days in Rabat in Morocco and catch up on some books that I’ve been meaning to read for some time (Steve has just finished Julian Barnes’ Departures, …and excellent it was too!)
wanted to take the opportunity to remind you that our feedback survey prize draw will take place this coming Monday, 13th April.
Your feedback is genuinely one of the most powerful tools we have. It helps us understand what’s working brilliantly, spot where we can do even better and make the case to the schools, settings and families we work with that Debutots is something special.
Every response we receive shapes what we do next. We read every single one, and we take them seriously.
Our feedback form takes less than 2 minutes to complete. There are no right or wrong answers — just your honest thoughts. Thank you in advance - it means a great deal to us. Check your inbox for the survey link and don’t forget to sign up for our After School Clubs!
🇲🇦 Surprised by a birthday flash mob in a Moroccan medina. No warning. No escape. Just singing.
Honestly? Super birthday. 😂🎂
And it got us thinking — that feeling of joyful surprise? That’s exactly what we bottle at Debutots parties.
Drama. Storytelling. Magic. For the tiny ones who deserve a birthday they’ll still talk about at 25 (like me!)

🎭 "Play isn't just fun—it's brain-building in action"
Our Debutots Practitioner, Harriet Clark, explores why play is essential for children's development in her latest article.
As a qualified Integrative Child Psychotherapist and Drama Therapist with experience in NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health settings, Harriet shares the science behind why play matters:
✨ When children play, they're developing the higher part of their brain—the cortex that allows them to think, reason, and problem-solve
✨ Play builds neural pathways, strengthens emotional intelligence, and teaches children how to relate to others in a safe space
✨ Through imaginative play, children develop self-determination, creativity, and the confidence to explore their world.
In our screen-dominated, test-focused culture, protecting time for play has never been more important. That's why at Debutots, we create spaces where children can be curious, spontaneous, and playful—developing not just performance skills, but the social and emotional foundations they need to thrive.
As Harriet reminds us: "When a child feels safe, valued, and heard, they experience a deep sense of connection. This gives them the confidence to go out into the world and be curious and playful with others."
