Over the summer we were asked to put together an off grid solar PV system to provide power to a small agricultural site in Kent. This cabinet for the system components was built in our studio in a couple of days, before being installed on site and hooked up to a small solar array. Generation from the solar panels is regulated by a 20 amp MPPT charge controller, and is used to charge a 7.5kWh battery bank. It has quick charge USB ports, a 12V DC socket, and a 300W inverter for AC power. The system has been designed around the clients modest power requirements, with a focus on simplicity and affordability. Now that it's up and running, it should be supplying clean solar power to the site for years to come.

We've been on hiatus since the spring, but we're pleased to announce that we are now ready to get back to running workshops at our studio space in Ladywell! In the past couple of weeks we have given the space a deep clean, and worked out some new measures to allow us to host workshops as safely as possible during the COVID-19 crisis. We will be restricting numbers so that social distancing can be maintained during the workshop, and we're asking anyone who comes to wear a facemask and keep their hands clean.
We hope this is good news for anyone who has been missing out on coming to come to one of our hands-on workshops over the summer. If you would like to get involved, check out the new events we have coming up. This is a gradual re-introduction for us, but we will be working on a few other new things over the next few weeks, so expect plenty more to come.

A couple of weeks ago we helped put together a workshop at Imperial College for Watts Next - a project to build solar chargers to donate to refugees in Europe. Participants got to learn all the techniques for making a solar panel, but the workshop also included an explanation of the links between energy, climate change, and migration
