Making the most of the Revision Phase
With just under 8 weeks to go until the November 2026 CTA exams (9 weeks for ATT) and in advance of the Tolley Revision QBs being available to download from the Academy on Friday 11th September, I thought I would share my top five “positive revision tips”:

1) Question practice is the key to passing exams - don't just read our answers - it is all too easy to nod as you read our answers but would you have actually put those points in your answer? You won’t find this out unless you type the answers up in full yourself using our on-screen Revision Banks. Pretend every answer is a real one you’d be happy to submit to the ATT/CIOT from now on!

2) Do all your question practice to time from now on – this is the best way to improve your time management. Get used to being really strict on the time allocated to each question. Consider using a "countdown" timer for each question (or each AW Module).

3) Ensure you can type up what you do know clearly and concisely to score marks in the exam - aim to spend the time in the exam discussing the topics you DO know that the question has asked for rather than worrying about the parts you can’t tackle. Now is the time to concentrate on consolidating the knowledge you HAVE got!

4) Be positive when debriefing your answers and concentrate on what you got right and aim for a “clear pass” on a question - not perfection! If you kick yourself when reading an answer and think "I knew that - why didn't I include it" how are you going to ensure you'll remember to include it next time? Consider writing yourself a "hit list" of all the things you have a tendency to forget!

5) There will be an opportunity for you to practice using the new RM software that will be used for the real exam in due course - please keep an eye on the ATT/CIOT Exam Noticeboards for more information and we will post on the Academy forums when we any have more information too. It has been confirmed that you will be able to use a spreadsheet for calculations during your exams. This is via a plug-in – SpreadJS – which we understand has very similar functionality and look-and-feel to Excel. We therefore recommend that you type the “wordy” parts of your answers straight into the answer box in your on-screen question banks and mock exams and type your computational answers into Excel and then copy those over into the relevant part of your answer. If you do not wish to use Excel you will still be able to insert tables to use in your answer in the usual way.
