The Society for Underwater Technology is an International Learned Society for Marine Science & Technology.

We're multidisciplinary with members from offshore energy, diving, salvage, science, archaeology, leisure, education & defence sectors. SUT was founded to promote the further understanding of the underwater environment including diving and submersibles, environmental forces, marine policy, marine renewable energies, ocean resources, geotechnics, salvage, subsea engineering, underwater robotics, science and vehicles.

Subsea cables, pipelines, and offshore energy networks underpin modern life, carrying the communications, data, and energy that economies and societies rely on every day. Yet these critical assets face an increasingly complex range of threats, from sabotage and cyberattacks to accidental damage and natural hazards.

Who deserves recognition for their contribution to underwater robotics? 🌊 🤖

Nominations are open for the Gwyn Griffiths Underwater Robotics Award (GGURA) 2026, recognising outstanding work by early to mid-career professionals aged under 40.

If you know someone making an impact across underwater robotics, through industry, commercial application, research or creative activity, now is the time to put their work forward.

The recipient will receive £500 and a certificate, recognising their contribution to a field continuing to advance across autonomy, AI, sensing and subsea vehicles.

Join the global marine technology community in Nanjing this October.

The 15th International SUT (China) Technical Conference will take place from 23–26 October 2026 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, bringing together experts and researchers from universities, research institutions and industry.

Under the theme “Marine Resource Development and Deep-Sea Equipment & Technology”, the conference will provide a platform for international knowledge exchange and collaboration across three key areas:

🔹 Underwater Technology and Equipment

🔹 Coastal and Ocean Engineering

🔹 Marine Renewable Energy Development

The programme will include invited keynote presentations, technical oral and poster sessions, and visits and excursions, providing opportunities to discover the latest research, exchange expertise and build connections across the international marine technology community.

A new hub for London’s offshore site investigation community launches next week!

Join us on 15 September for the inaugural gathering of the SUT Offshore Site Investigation & Geotechnics (OSIG) London Hub.

Led by Vanessa Monteleone, Giorgio Giuliani, Greg Tucker and Pishun Tantivangphaisal, the Hub aims to build a vibrant community connecting professionals across offshore geoscience, geotechnical engineering, survey, academia, renewables and marine engineering.

This informal launch is your opportunity to meet the Hub team, make new connections and, importantly, help shape what comes next — from future technical talks and site visits to mentoring, early-career activities, professional development and cross-discipline networking.

Welcome to SUT, Nautexe Global!

We’re pleased to welcome Nautexe Global as a new SUT Corporate Member.

Nautexe Global develops capability for extreme environments across subsea, defence and space.

Its Nautexe Extreme Environment Centre, planned for Exeter Science Park, will provide a configurable oceanic test, evaluation and training facility, with the Centre due to open in 2029.
