The ScreenSkills bursary provided Midnight Memphis with financial support so they could take the next step in their screen career and you might be eligible too!

The ScreenSkills bursaries are open to anyone working in the screen industries and can cover a range of purchases and fees - from training costs, accommodation, driving lessons to equipment like wet weather gear.

With their bursary, Midnight Memphis was able to access mentoring and editing training in DaVinci Resolve. Now, they continue to channel the tailored support they received into Daydream Cinema, which works to make film more accessible to neurodivergent and disabled people through accessible screenings and more.

1) We returned to the Edinburgh TV Festival with an informal meet-up on leadership and management as part of the festival’s dedicated networking strand, ConnectED. Trainer Samantha Jukes-Adams explored ideas around how guided training can help professionals develop new skills and build confidence for leadership roles. 2) Our Scotland Training Manager, Kate, visited the set of to catch up with ScreenSkills Sound Trainee Shaun Monkhouse, who is currently on placement through Trainee Finder. It was great to hear how much Shaun is enjoying the opportunity as he looks ahead to his next steps in the industry. We also have a Make a Move participant, Metin, working on the show as Production Manager, supported through the Children’s TV Skills Fund. 3) Last week, members of the ScreenSkills team joined EIFF. The Film Skills Fund also hosted a networking brunch, bringing attendees together to connect and make connections, but also learn more about the range of opportunities available to support film professionals working in Scotland via the Fund. Thanks to EIFF and to everybody for coming!

4) We recently launched a new report with the BBC on the UK Digital Content Creator landscape to understand how creator skills compare to film and television sector skills. 🎬 At 40, Reece Cargan made a big career change, starting his journey in film as a runner in Glasgow.

Since then, the has supported him throughout his career, including through co-funded initiatives such as and British Independent Film Awards Springboard. He has gone on to become a producer and founder of his own company, Bombito Productions.

This year, his short documentary had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Now, Reece is giving back to the Film Skills Fund that supported him at the start of his journey, helping to create opportunities for others looking to build careers in the industry.

His story is a reminder that it’s never too late to take a new direction and that the skills and experience you’ve gained along the way can be the foundation for a new career in film. 🎬

Glasgow-based Producer/Director Evie Greenstreet took part in ScreenSkills’ supported programme, Become a self-shooting PD, delivered by DV Talent to help experienced crew progress into Producer/Director roles.

After returning from working in Australia to unscripted production in Scotland, Evie used the programme to sharpen her skills, rebuild her confidence and strengthen her network within the UK unscripted industry.

As part of the programme, Evie undertook edit producing and additional training, which she was able to put into practice during her placement with Rogan Productions on a new Channel 4 observational documentary series.

She has since secured a year-long contract with The Garden Productions on 24 Hours in Police Custody - an exciting next step in her career.

Through the Unscripted TV Skills Fund, ScreenSkills works with industry to provide training and development opportunities that help experienced crew build skills, confidence and networks, and progress their careers in unscripted television.

Glasgow-based Jess Kelly began their screen career as an AD before retraining as a Script Editor in 2025.

With support from ScreenSkills HETV Skills Fund, Jess made the transition into a new department through two Fund-supported placements on Half Man and Vigil S3, gaining hands-on experience and building their skills and confidence.

“ScreenSkills has been hugely influential to my development. They supported me as I transitioned departments mid-career and were fundamental in providing opportunities to support my growth, such as providing placements and additional bursaries to cover equipment and training costs.”

Jess also received a ScreenSkills bursary to support training with John Yorke Story and the cost of Final Draft software.

“My experience on my ScreenSkills placements were wholly positive. I was able to get stuck in and learn from doing - whether it was storylining with writers or leading script distribution - this provided the perfect training ground to build up skills and confidence.”

Jess is now looking to build on that experience as an Assistant Script Editor or Script Editor on a HETV production.

“Without ScreenSkills it is very unlikely I would have been able to retrain, and now thanks to their support I see a different future for myself.”

Seven films at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival contributed to the , providing on-set placements for more than 20 people. 🎬

Among them was (Pilea Pictures), where Scotland-based Fraser Malcolm had the chance to take an important step forward in his career, securing his first 2nd AD film credit!

Through ScreenSkills’ HETV and Film co-funded Succeed as a 2nd AD programme, delivered by DV Talent, Fraser secured training and an on-set placement supported by the .

“I had the support from both sides which definitely made it a very enjoyable experience. Everyone on the production was great to work with and very understanding when it came to my knowledge-base. I was nervous about stepping-up and doubtful it may happen at points but am so grateful to everyone involved who made it happen for me.”
