The Department of Statistical Science of University College London, part of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, was founded in 1911 by Karl Pearson as the first university statistics department in the world. Several foundational advances in modern statistics were made here, including correlation, regression, Pearson frequency curves, chi-squared distribution and classical statistical inference.
