We are excited to announce that we will be holding our preliminary round of the ELOQUENCE Public Speaking Competition - a collaboration between 5 universities across the country!

The round consists of delivering a 5 minute prepared speech on the topic - “My Bucket List”. Participants will be scored according to a marking rubric (more details found on the form below) and will receive personalised feedback from guest judges!

Two speakers will progress from the preliminary round to the final that will be held at Durham University on 5th March. Finalists will be invited to a free networking dinner and have their travel and accommodation expenses subsidised.

Please note that a £5 registration fee will be required and will grant all participants the opportunity to spectate the final at no additional cost! This will be a unique opportunity to practise your public speaking skills and receive targeted feedback. We wish everyone the best of luck and may the most eloquent speech win!

Hi everyone!

The Communication Society Committee has decided that in light of recent unfortunate developments concerning the COVID-19 situation, the PUBlic Speaking Social that was planned on Monday, 13 December is going to be postponed until term 2. As cases of COVID-19 are rapidly rising and the new Omicron variant is spreading, the health and safety of our society members remains the main priority.

Moreover, for the same reasons mentioned above the Public Speaking Workshop that was planned on 16 December is going to happen online. The structure of the event is going to remain the same, with the added benefit of participating from your own home! The session will start at 6:45 PM and here’s the link: https://tinyurl.com/UCLCOMMSOCZOOM .

However, keeping the positive attitude, we can’t wait to see you all well-rested at our social in term 2! In the meantime, stay safe, good luck with your exams and, hopefully, see you on Thursday!
