West London College is thrilled to announce that Yvan Cahour, patisserie lecturer at Hammersmith and Fulham College, has been awarded the rank of Officer of the Order of Agricultural Merit (Ordre du Mérite Agricole) by the French Republic. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday 21 January 2025 and was presided over by the French Ambassador, Hélène Duchêne, at the French Embassy in London.
This highly esteemed order, established in 1883, recognises individuals for their exceptional contributions to agriculture and its related fields. Often referred to as the ‘Knighthood of Agriculture,’ it holds a distinguished position, second only to the Legion of Honour in French precedence. The award celebrates not only those directly involved in agriculture but also educators and researchers whose dedication uplifts the field and its impact on society.

Four talented hospitality and catering students from West London College had the unique opportunity to showcase their skills at an extraordinary event hosted by the Royal Voluntary Service on 11 December. The prestigious Festive Spread lunch, held at The Amadeus in London, was attended by Her Majesty The Queen, Patron of RVS, alongside charity volunteers, clients, and celebrity supporters, including Felicity Kendal and Elaine Paige.
West London College students Sabah, Katie, Arjan, and Nevaeh joined the professional catering team to prepare and serve the festive meal to 80 delighted attendees. Each of these exceptional students brought a wealth of skills, experience, and passion to the event.
The Festive Spread lunch also offered an unforgettable highlight when Her Majesty The Queen poured brandy over a giant Christmas pudding, which was then flambéed by Royal Voluntary Service CEO Catherine Johnstone. Guests, including charity supporters and volunteers, were delighted by the festive cheer, and the students’ contributions were celebrated throughout the event.

We celebrated T Levels Week 2024 with an exciting and inspiring showcase event!
is a national celebration of the two-year Level 3 technical courses, started as an alternative to A Levels, running from 2 December through to 6 December 2024. It highlights how these programmes equip young people with the skills needed for thriving careers in a variety of industries.
We run T Levels in Health, Digital and Business at WLC - many shared their stories with potential new students, staff and stakeholders.
Our T Level Health students were thrilled to talk about their studies and show our new health science lab. Ateeyat said: “I chose T Levels because it has two parts: the theory part and the practical part. I wanted to gain real-life skills. The course includes a work placement in a hospice where I shadow nurses, care assistants, and adult nursing carers. This allows me to learn essential communication skills, observe different departments, and see how they work together. It’s amazing to gain those employee skills first-hand.”
And Olivia added: "When I was 14, I had brain surgery, and the care I received from nurses really inspired me. I wanted to give back and provide that same empathy and care to others. That experience shaped who I am and what I value in life, and T Levels are helping me turn that passion into a career.”

West London College hosted its Student Awards 2024 this week, a much-anticipated event in the college calendar. The event brings together alumni, students, partners, and their families and guests to celebrate exceptional achievements across education, industry, and the community.
Guests were welcomed to the TASTE Restaurant at Hammersmith & Fulham College for a stylish reception featuring a selection of vegan, plant-based canapés, prosecco, and fresh juices. For the first time, the restaurant housed a GlamBOT, allowing nominees and their families to capture stunning high-resolution slow-motion video footage for their own social media platforms.
Principal and CEO Karen Redhead OBE welcomed everyone to the event followed by keynote speaker Yared Bizuneh. Yared, who studied Travel and Tourism at WLC in 1998, is a successful entrepreneur, tourism advocate, and innovator.
The overall Board’s Award for Excellence was handpicked by our Board of Governors, choosing the “winner of winners.” The Board were inspired by the student’s story, and how he continues to give back to the community, choosing Amir Jourabian as this year’s recipient. Governors Maddalaine Ansell, Robin Ghurbhurun (MSc, MIoL), Jonathan Roe, Carole Kitching, Sharon Lambert and Adrien Ong attended the ceremony to present the award to Amir.

As it's half-term next week, we're celebrating Diwali today at all three of our colleges!
For many Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, Diwali is one of the most important dates in the calendar - and everyone is invited to join in the 'festival of lights'.
This year, Diwali is being celebrated on either Thursday 31 October or Friday 1 November, depending on where people are in the world.
In addition to our sweet treat tables, our cafeteria teams have prepared Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai for staff and students to sample.
Happy Diwali!

We had another special visitor to Hammersmith & Fulham College today, as we welcomed back Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith and Chiswick.
Andy got to see one of our new immersive classrooms which connect all of our three colleges to each other and the global community, witnessing a guest lecturer demo.
Our Principal and CEO Karen Redhead OBE then took him to see the recently relaunched TASTE Restaurant, and meet some of our students - in the kitchens, he met Hospitality and Catering students as they practiced perfecting sauces, ESOL Level 1 students, and some of Preparation for Life and Work Inclusive Learning students in their maths lesson.
We look forward to seeing you again soon, Andy!

Staff and students from across all three of our colleges joined together this week to mark the International Day of Peace, a global initiative dedicated to promoting peace and harmony across the world.
In addition to tutorials thinking about peace, what it means, and what brings us individual peace, members of the WLC community were encouraged to actively participate by sharing messages on sticky notes and attaching them to symbolic ‘Peace Trees’.
