Look up! A solar eclipse is coming to the UK.

On Wednesday 12 August, the Moon will pass between the Sun and Earth, creating a partial solar eclipse, with around 90% coverage visible from the UK.

If you're planning to watch, remember to do so safely, never look directly at the Sun without suitable eye protection.

For educators, it's also a brilliant opportunity to turn a spectacular event in the sky into a hands-on learning experience. Explore ESERO-UK resources (https://bit.ly/2QdJzQs) to help young people investigate eclipses, the Sun, Moon, and Earth, and the science behind what they see.

📚 A free book for every child!

Every Year 6 child in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland will receive a free copy of Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell.

This is a gift from the Queen as part of the National Year of Reading. But there are differences of opinion about the gift.

Some believe it may have been better to allow children to choose a book from a selection, or offer a voucher to choose a free book in a local bookshop.
