Centre for the Study of States, Markets and People - STAMP STAMP is a research centre at UEL that studies globalisation, European integration and the state from critical, historical and contemporary perspectives.

Founded in summer 2013 by a group of researchers at UEL and the Royal Docks Business School, STAMP has a track record in researching globalisation, European integration and the state from critical, historical and contemporary perspectives. It aims to generate scholarly work on the development of the monetary and the financial system, including the field of Islamic banking and finance. STAMP is currently producing work on the transformations of the global and European economies and their crisis. We are especially focusing on the rise of financialisation/globalization, derivatives trading, housing market bubbles, the financialization of firms and the resulting intensification of crises, both nationally and internationally. In addition, the members of STAMP carry out research on both developed and developing countries and have a special focus on the EU crisis, Eastern Europe and the greater Middle East. STAMP houses the refereed publication Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies (Routledge, quarterly since 1998).

Dr Uysal discusses Turkey’s foreign policy in Sub-Saharan Africa as a particular sociohistorical form of sub-imperialism that is characterised by and reproduces economic and geopolitical rivalries and alliances among Turkey and Western and Gulf countries.
