Our preschoolers discovered that art doesn’t always need brushes or careful lines, art can be movement! Inspired by Jackson’s Pollock’s famous action painting technique, they used their whole bodies to splash, drip and splatter different shades of blue and black paint across a large canvas.

As they moved, the children watched with fascination as each splash left a different trace, creating overlapping lines, drops and unexpected patterns. They experimented with how their movements changed the marks they made, bigger movements created dramatic splashes, while smaller actions produced delicate drops and trails.

It was a wonderfully messy, energetic and creative experience, combining art, movement and sensory exploration while giving our preschoolers the freedom to express themselves on a much bigger scale!

🎶 Why music matters in the early years…

A familiar song can bring comfort. A silly dance can make everyone laugh. Singing together can create a sense of belonging.

At Happy Journeys, music is part of everyday life. From songs and rhymes to movement and musical exploration, we give children plenty of opportunities to listen, join in and find their own way to express themselves.

In preschool we celebrated 'Onam', the harvest festival celebrated by people of Kerala, a state in southern India. We made flower garlands and talked about the story behind Onam and Onam sadya as well as traditional activities such as boat race and tug of war. We also talked about traditional folk art such as Kathakali and Mohiniyatam.

Those first little teeth are worth looking after from the moment they appear. 🤍

Brushing can sometimes be a challenge, so try making it part of a predictable routine. Sing a song, brush alongside your little one, or let them have a go before you help finish the job.

There’s no such thing as starting too early when it comes to sharing stories. 🤍

Reading together isn't about teaching your little one to read just yet. It’s about cuddling up, listening to your voice, looking at pictures, discovering new words and enjoying time together.

Our little explorers took on an exciting gross motor bridge-crossing challenge! Using a single plank and holding onto a rope for support, the toddlers carefully shuffled from one side to the other, concentrating on their balance and body control.

This activity supported the development of core strength, coordination, spatial awareness and gross motor skills, while encouraging children to shift their weight, maintain stability and confidently navigate an uneven surface. It also helped build focus, confidence and a sense of achievement as they completed the challenge.
