The programme is administered by MEXT, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, via the Embassy of Japan in the UK. The postgraduate scholarship, tenable for a minimum of either 2 years or 18 months is awarded to UK graduates who wish to pursue independent research or enter onto a taught course in Japanese universities. Research or study may be undertaken in almost any field as long as it is relevant to a grantee's field of expertise or previous study. If you are not a UK citizen but wish to apply for a MEXT Scholarship, please contact the Embassy of Japan in your own country. The undergraduate scholarship in Japanese Studies is tenable for one year at a university in Japan. Students will take courses in the Japanese language and participate in all aspects of university life. It is an excellent opportunity to integrate fully into the Japanese community as well as secure a solid knowledge of the Japanese language. The Japanese Government provides living expenses, university fees and return air fare.
