At Holmewood, our students are given some incredible opportunities to explore, create, and develop their skills through a wide range of learning experiences ✨📚
Through these opportunities, we often discover wonderful talents within our school community — and most recently, we have all been absolutely blown away by Khalid’s amazing artistic ability 🎨👏
His drawings have shown incredible creativity, attention to detail, and dedication. It has been a joy to see his talent shine through in every piece of work he has produced 🌟
Khalid should feel incredibly proud of his achievements and the wonderful artwork he has created. We cannot wait to see where his creativity takes him next! 🎉🖌️
Well done, Khalid — keep creating and inspiring! 💙

🍽️ At the Lower Campus, students enjoyed an exciting food tasting session hosted by Ms Brito and Ms Blumenfeld.
A brilliant food tasting event with lots of interesting textures and flavour combinations that really challenged students and encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones and try something new.
Thank you to everyone involved in making it such a fun and engaging experience! ✨

Here at The Holmewood School, we love seeing the creativity our staff bring to lessons! 👏
Ms Blumenfeld set up an amazing Food Tech revision session today for our GCSE Food students. The focus was on the functional and chemical properties of ingredients in cooking — including caramelisation, gelatinisation, emulsification, aeration and more 🍳🧁
The students asked for a cooking session as some “light relief” before their final exam… this might not have been what they expected, but it’s definitely a lesson that will stick! 😄

A huge shout out to Isaac, who attended an official job interview at the London Transport Museum yesterday for a volunteering role — and was offered the position that very same evening!
This was a big step for Isaac, and he approached it with real courage and determination. It’s completely natural for him to be feeling a little anxious right now, alongside a genuine sense of excitement about what lies ahead.
At Holmewood, we love seeing our students achieve great things and opening them up to new opportunities. We are incredibly proud of Isaac and what he has accomplished.
We wish Isaac every success in his new role and look forward to supporting him on this journey. One step at a time.

This term, our whole school is focusing on developing an important executive functioning skill: working memory.
What is working memory?
Working memory is the ability to hold and use information in our minds for short periods of time. It helps students follow instructions, solve problems, stay focused, and complete tasks. For example, when a student remembers a set of instructions while carrying them out, or keeps track of steps in a maths problem, they are using their working memory.
Why are we focusing on this?
Strong working memory skills are essential for learning across all subjects. By supporting students in developing this skill, we are helping them become more independent, confident, and successful learners. Some students may find working memory more challenging, so we are using targeted strategies in school to support everyone.
How we are supporting students in school:
Breaking instructions into smaller, manageable steps
Using visual aids and reminders
Repeating and reinforcing key information
Encouraging note-taking and checklists
Giving students time to process information
How you can help at home:
Give clear, short instructions (one or two steps at a time)
Ask your child to repeat instructions back to you
Use visual reminders like lists or planners
Play memory-based games (e.g. “I went to the shop…”, card matching games)
Encourage routines to reduce the need to remember lots of new information
Working together, we can help strengthen this key skill and support our students to thrive.

🐣 Exciting things are happening at our Woodside Park Campus! 🐣
Our egg incubation project is in full swing, and we’re thrilled to see chicks beginning to hatch! This hands-on experience is not only incredibly exciting for our students, but also a powerful learning opportunity.
Watching the journey from egg to chick helps students understand life cycles, responsibility, and the importance of care and patience. It sparks curiosity, encourages questions, and brings science to life in a way that no textbook can.
It’s also proving to be a lovely calming experience for many of our students, offering a quiet, nurturing focus that supports wellbeing alongside learning.
We welcome our new fluffy arrivals to Holmewood! 🐥💛

It’s been an exciting Spring term at Holmewood School—let’s take a moment to look back at some of the highlights 🌸
Piccadilly Class visited a Buddhist centre, where they learned all about mindfulness, traditions, and daily practices.
A big thank you to our Enterprise Group, who catered for the Year 9 parent event at our Muswell Hill Campus. A lot of hard work went into their food creations, and it was enjoyed by everyone!
Hammersmith Class have been working hard on their Art projects as part of their mock exams, and the work produced has been outstanding. ell done!
Metropolitan Class took a trip to the Everyman Cinema to watch a film about a young aspiring boxer, sparking great discussions and reflections.
And finally, Victoria Class went on a trip to the zoo this week—because who doesn’t love a day at the zoo? 🐾
Thank you for your continued support. Wishing you all a wonderful and restful Easter break!

✨ It is always so lovely being able to welcome trainee teachers to Holmewood and support them in learning how to best work with Autistic and ADHD students.
⭐ A huge thank you for supporting our UCL PGCE teachers last week. It was a pleasure having you with us!
Their feedback really meant a lot to our team:
"I found the experience incredibly valuable, particularly due to how welcoming and supportive the school staff were. I enjoyed seeing a wide variety of lessons and it was great to get a chance to look at the class folder to understand the pupils' contexts. I don't have any suggested improvements as I found the experience rewarding and useful."
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at The Holmewood School and have gained a great insight into how students with SEND are supported in a specialist school that will support my teaching moving forward. I have found the school to be a very welcoming and supportive environment where the wellbeing and personal growth of each student is prioritised. Staff members welcomed any questions I had and were open to sharing their expertise, which helped to deepen my understanding of how to support students with SEND."
We’re so proud to be part of shaping the next generation of educators 💙 ✨

🌿 Victoria Class Herbarium Project – Learning About Plants Through Creativity and Observation 🌿
Our Victoria Class students have been exploring the fascinating world of plants through their Herbarium Project. This hands-on activity encouraged students to carefully observe different plants, collect leaves, and creatively preserve them while learning about their unique features.
Through this project, students discovered the importance of plants in our environment and developed skills in observation, creativity, and scientific thinking. Each herbarium page reflects the students’ effort, curiosity, and appreciation for nature.
It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they transformed simple leaves into beautiful learning displays. 🌱🍃
