Cornish style ✨

We loved making our own Cornish pasties looking at different ingredients, what they feel and look like, what quantities we are going to use and counting these out.

We also predicted what causes are going to happen when our uncooked pasties go into the oven and how they are going to cook. We discovered what steam is and how it’s caused

To finish it off they were delicious 😋

🌈 Big Feelings, Little Faces

This week we’ve been exploring the wonderful world of emotions and feelings! 💛
Using emotion playdough, we explored different colours to represent how we were feeling, created facial expressions and talked about what happens to our faces and bodies when we experience different emotions.

📚 Through stories and emotion-themed books, we recognised feelings in characters and began talking about how and why we might feel a certain way. We also used colourful sorting activities to match emotions, supporting hand-eye coordination, concentration and problem-solving.

🧸 Our emotion puppets helped us bring feelings to life through play, encouraging the children to express themselves and explore different situations.

Most importantly, we talked about how feelings can change. If we feel sad, angry or worried, there are things we can do to help ourselves feel better. We’re learning that recognising our emotions, understanding why we feel them and talking about them is an important part of growing and learning. 🌈💭

🦁 Wild About Textures: Exploring the Savannah & Watering Hole

We went on a wild adventure to the Savannah and Watering Hole, exploring a variety of textures, materials and sensory experiences along the way! The children had the opportunity to touch, manipulate and experiment with different materials, using their own imaginations to create and explore.

We discovered different animals that might live on the Savannah, thought about the sounds they make, and used our creativity to bring the animals and their environment to life. From rough and bumpy to soft and smooth, we explored textures through hands-on, imaginative play, encouraging curiosity, communication and sensory development.

🦖🌿 ROAR-SOME DISCOVERIES: INTO THE WORLD OF DINOSAURS! 🌿🦕Our little palaeontologists travelled millions of years back in time as we recreated our very own prehistoric world! 🌋🦴We investigated what dinosaurs ate, where they lived and how their environments may have looked, while comparing their incredible differences in size, shape and length. We used mathematical language such as bigger, smaller, longer, shorter, heavier, lighter, more and less to make comparisons between our prehistoric creatures. 📏🔢We became fossil detectives too! 🦴🔍 We explored how fossils can form over an incredibly long period of time and how palaeontologists discover clues about dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago.Using books and illustrations, we identified different dinosaurs and examined their distinctive features, from sharp teeth and powerful claws to long necks and enormous tails. 📖🦖Then it was time to ROAR! 🎭 The children transformed into different dinosaurs, experimenting with movements, sounds and behaviours, while thinking about how dinosaurs might have interacted with one another.Through imaginative play, we developed scientific thinking, mathematical reasoning, communication and creativity — proving that sometimes the best learning happens when you let your imagination go prehistoric! 🌋✨

🌴✈️ We’ve Arrived at Our Holiday Destination! 🌊🐚

After our exciting journey, we finally arrived at our holiday destination and began exploring everything the seaside had to offer! 🌊☀️

The children enjoyed feeling and exploring different textures, including the sand, while talking about what we might find in the sea and the amazing animals that live beneath the waves. 🐠🐙🦀 We also shared our own seaside experiences, remembering places we have visited and things we have seen.

We then brought our experiences to life by creating our very own coral reefs using a variety of colourful materials. 🪸🎨 The children explored different shapes, colours, textures and patterns, confidently sharing their ideas and talking about what they had created.

This experience supported the EYFS Understanding the World, Communication and Language and Expressive Arts and Design, encouraging children to share experiences, develop vocabulary, explore creatively and confidently express their own ideas.

✏️✨ Squish, Shape & Make Your Mark! ✨

Our children have been getting creative with mark making using a range of malleable materials, exploring how different letters are formed and the sounds they make. 🔤

We focused on letters such as ‘t’, ‘d’ and ‘s’, thinking about the sounds we hear and the different shapes and lines we can see within each letter. The children enjoyed using their hands to mould, roll, press and shape the materials, confidently creating their own marks, patterns and shapes.

This hands-on experience supports the EYFS Literacy and Physical Development areas, strengthening fine motor skills, hand control and coordination while building early phonics awareness. It also encourages children to develop confidence as they experiment, make choices and proudly create their own marks. 🌟

Learning through touch, exploring through play and making our own marks! 💛
