🫧 Our Very Own Nursery Spa Retreat
This week, the children took the lead in creating their very own spa retreat, transforming our learning environment into a calm and relaxing space focused on self-care and wellbeing.
Using a range of mark-making and role-play opportunities, the children welcomed and checked in their clients, developing their early writing skills while exploring sounds and language linked to their names. We talked about the letters in our names and practised recognising the initial letter, supporting early literacy in a meaningful and engaging way ✨
The children then enjoyed a variety of spa experiences, including gentle foot spas and massages, child-friendly face masks, and having their nails painted. They embraced the role-play experience with great enthusiasm, taking turns to be both spa therapists and clients.
To create a truly tranquil atmosphere we listened to the world around us and calming music and even cucumber slices for that authentic spa-day feel!

🌱 Little Gardeners, Big Discoveries!
Our babies led their own gardening adventure, showing great curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored the garden environment. They independently investigated a variety of gardening tools, including spades and hand tools, using them to scoop, move, and manipulate soil in different ways.
Following their interests, the babies helped plant a selection of seeds, including carrots and peas. They carefully explored the textures of the soil and enjoyed filling, digging, and transferring as they worked. Once the seeds were planted, the babies took part in moving them to our main vegetable patch, demonstrating growing confidence and involvement in the process.
This child-led experience has supported their curiosity about the natural world while encouraging exploration, problem-solving, physical development, and a sense of responsibility as they care for their growing plants.

🌱 Kind to Ourselves, Kind to Our Planet
This week, we continued our exploration of the natural world by taking a closer look at the trees around us. Building on our knowledge of oxygen and carbon dioxide, we discussed how trees help keep our planet healthy and why they are so important for all living things.
🍃 During our outdoor investigations, we matched the different colours we could see on the trees and extended our vocabulary by exploring mathematical language to describe them, including words such as tall, wide, long, and broad branches. We also learned about the different parts of a tree, including the roots, and discussed why they are essential for helping trees grow strong and healthy.
✏️ The children enjoyed using mark-making skills to create tree rubbings with crayons, exploring the fascinating shapes, patterns, and textures they could see. They were excited to discover the different effects they could create and compare the unique patterns found on each tree.
🌈 Our learning about healthy lifestyles continued as we explored a variety of nutritious foods, including peppers and cucumbers, discussing where they come from and why they are good for our bodies. The children then made their own delicious rainbow wraps, carefully practising their cutting skills with child-safe knives and learning how to use cooking equipment safely with adult support.
🥒🍅 As we enjoyed our healthy creations, we revisited our body book to deepen our understanding of how our bodies work. We explored how blood is pumped around the body, why exercise helps keep us healthy and strong, the importance of drinking water, and how making healthy food choices supports our overall wellbeing.
What a wonderful week of discovery, creativity, and learning about how to care for both our bodies and the world around us! 🌍
