What makes a child want to write? ✨

Start with what they already love.

Their favourite characters. Their favourite shows. Superheroes, adventures, magical worlds or even a completely new ending to a story they can’t stop talking about.

Creative writing becomes much more exciting when children are given the freedom to explore their own interests!

Make writing irresistible by making it theirs.

A notebook, a pen and a little fresh air can be the beginning of something wonderful. ✍️

Writing doesn’t always have to happen at a desk or feel like another school assignment. Encourage your child to take their notebook somewhere they enjoy and simply write about the people they see, the sounds around them, an imaginary adventure, or whatever comes to mind.

When writing feels free and personal, creativity has room to flourish.

Our writer of the week is !!!

She is the author of STAY WITH ME and A SPELL OF GOOD THINGS.

She holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Literature in English from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, (Nigeria), and an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia (UK) where she was awarded an international bursary for creative writing.

In 2021 her play PROVENANCE was produced by the University of East Anglia and Mutiny and exhibited as a multi-screen immersive installation.

Stay With Me won the 9mobile Prize for Literature and Prix Les Afriques and was shortlisted for the Women’s Prize and the Wellcome Book Prize. A Spell of Good Things was longlisted for the Booker prize and was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the Encore Award.

A child volunteering to read their story aloud might not sound like a huge achievement.

But when that child once hid their writing because they were afraid it wasn't "good enough", it can be enormous.

Creative writing develops more than writing ability.

It teaches children to form ideas, communicate them, receive feedback, improve their work and eventually say:

Hello parents! The new term is underway, but your young writer can still join us! ✍🏾

Creative Writing Club for Kids and Teens has officially begun, and our young writers are already creating characters, building plots, sharing ideas and growing in confidence.

But if you’ve only just discovered us, it’s not too late to join the Autumn Term.

Your child can start with a FREE TRIAL SESSION, experience the class for themselves and then you can decide whether the club is the right fit for them. No need to commit before they’ve tried it.

The Young Author Accelerator is intentionally small.

With a maximum of five writers in each cohort, we can understand what each student is trying to create, where their manuscript is working, where they're getting stuck and what they personally need to develop next.

It's focused mentorship for a young writer who is ready to work seriously on their craft.

Sometimes the best thing a young writer can discover is another young writer🌟.

Not every child has friends who get excited about inventing characters, discussing books or spending an afternoon creating an imaginary world.

Then they join a room where everyone gets it.

That's one of my favourite things about the Creative Writing Club.

It's not only about improving sentences and plots. It's about young people finding a community where their imagination is celebrated.

Your child already writes.
