Year 3 had a wonderful trip to Kew Gardens to get closer to nature. They learnt about plant adaptations and much more. They also spent time doing some valuable observational sketching in their sketchbooks. We hope to come back soon.

A group of year 5 children had the most fantastic and fascinating time in Mexico, along with children from the other New Vision Trust Schools.

Elmhurst took part in an exchange programme with a school in Mexico City – Instituto Miguel Angel (IMA) as part of the Global Learning Programme. The children received a very warm welcome from their new friends and their teachers.

One of the highlights of the trip was the Teotihuacan pyramids; this is a site of many of the most architecturally significant Mesoamerican pyramids in this corner of the world.

Watch this space for more about this momentous adventure!

Recently, the children who are reading The Stick Man during their Literacy groups in the Nash Wing headed out to the park.

We read the Stick Man story under one of the trees, relating aspects of the story to the things we could see or touch around us: leaves, flowers, crows, sticks and flowers. Then the children collected sticks which they carried back to school independently.

The next day, the children made Stick People with their twigs which we will use to bring the story to life over the next week. We loved relating the story to real life experiences whilst learning how to enjoy local places safely and explore the beauty of nature.

On Monday, 17th March 2025, Elmhurst Primary School welcomed families, staff, and community members to a special Iftar dinner, bringing everyone together in the spirit of Ramadan.

Ramadan is a time for reflection, generosity, and unity—a month where many in our community focus on prayer, share meals with loved ones, and remember those in need. To honour this special time, we were delighted to host an Iftar that truly embodied these values.

The response was overwhelming, with a fantastic turnout of families and staff eager to break fast together. The warmth of the evening was enhanced by the homemade dishes shared, creating a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

A highlight of the night was our very own pupil, Owais, who confidently recited the Adhaan (call to prayer), marking the opening of the fast and setting the stage for a meal enjoyed in great company.

It was a truly memorable evening, and we hope to host many more events like this, strengthening the bonds within our school and the wider community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the evening so special! We would like to thank Ms Rehman Parent and Pupil Voice Coordinator for leading this event.

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded Shakespeare Gold School Status for participating in the Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival for eight years consecutively. W

We are now working towards reaching Platinum status by continuing with our annual Shakespeare productions. Coram SSF is a cultural education charity that exists to instil curiosity and empathy, aspiration and self-esteem, literacy and teamwork through the performance of Shakespeare's plays.

This year's Shakespeare Schools Festival production was Romeo & Juliet and was staged a few weeks ago at The Source theatre in Stratford.

The children set the play in Green Street & the parents kindly provided thobes & abayas for the children to wear: white for the Montagues & black for the Capulets. The music added to the setting. Miss Weaver made stunning masks for the Capulet party & the final vault scene. The teachers are so proud of all our actors & actresses & the wonderful play they produced.

They demonstrated an understanding of their characters and worked together to produce the ‘flow’ of Shakespeare’s wonderful tragedy. A special thank you to Mrs Robinson and Miss Weaver who led the production, along with Ms Cansdale who provided invaluable support in the run up to the big night.

3W have finished writing their information texts.🥳

Their publishing goal was to make them into some art and they chose watercolour pencils for a beautiful effect.

They can’t wait to share them with their classmates! ✏️

As part of their curriculum, Reception have been learning how to care for living things. The children have been very hands on with taking care of the chicks.

The children started off by writing ‘chick care guides’. After they grew too big for their brooder box, we created an ‘extension’ so they could have a little more space to roam and stretch their legs.

The children ensure the chicks have enough food and water everyday. It’s been a wonderful experience!
