Family matters. And when you don’t have it, the state becomes essential for your survival.

It was a heartbreaking and baffling experience to work on this story with Sally Weale in 2018 when the student loans company randomly withdrew the student loans of vulnerable students with no family after spying on their social media. It plunged many into homlessness and ruined their mental health and future aspirations.

I’m so glad that through collaborative journalistic work we could call out this injustice.
