🌟 Annual Early Years Conference 2026 🌟

Today, our Managers from East Sheen and Mortlake, Victoria and Jenny, had the pleasure of attending the Annual Early Years Conference 2026 at Kingston University — a fantastic opportunity to learn, reflect and share ideas with fellow early years professionals.

The day was packed with inspiring workshops and thought-provoking sessions, including creative dance and how this can enhance children’s learning, development and enjoyment within early years settings. 💃✨

We also explored practical strategies to support children when transitioning into a new setting or class, helping us to consider how we can make these important changes as positive, nurturing and successful as possible. 🌱

We were delighted to hear from keynote speakers Ruth Swailes, who explored navigating the current landscape — from barriers to belonging, and the wonderful author Michael Rosen, who inspired us with the wonder of words: lighting the spark of language and literacy. 📚✨

A brilliant day of professional development, inspiration and new ideas that we look forward to bringing back to our teams and, most importantly, using to further enrich the experiences we provide for our children. ❤️

Our younger children have been participating in activities based around one of our core stories and songs.
“Row row your boat” and “Fox’s Socks”

Fox’s Socks story has been used to help encourage sorting and matching skills, while Row Row your Boat was about colour, textures and rhyme as they created their own crocodile and sang as they rowed their own boat down the river.

Role play is a vital part of early years education. Not only does it help them make sense of the world and everyday situations, It also helps build communication skills and build vocabulary, along with helping them to develop social skills, and emotional intelligence.
This week at Mortlake following the children’s interest of local building work going on we have set up both a role play and small construction site for the children to enjoy. Both these areas have seen lots of conversations and peer interaction with the children playing cooperatively with each other, sharing and taking turns with the tools and equipment.

🥹🥲😵‍💫😡Feelings and Emotions 😵‍💫😡
Our children took part in an activity around feelings and emotions, through discussions, stories and creative play they explored different emotions such as happy, sadness, excitement and angry.
Learning to recognise and express emotions is an important part of children's social and emotional development.
The children enjoyed recognising emotions using the soft toys and books and pointing to their reflection in the mirror whilst trying to express each emotion.
