We're looking forward to welcoming colleagues to the Trust's all staff conference tomorrow, our time in the year for being and learning together.
With a keynote and sessions to support our thinking on equality, diversity and inclusion and how we can foster a feeling of belonging, it's also going to be a great opportunity to catch-up, connect and develop as we start the spring term.

Wishing the wonderful staff at all the schools in Yorkshire Causeway Trust a great start to the new term today.
Thank you for making me so welcome yesterday: Doing the keynote speech on embedding EDI to 500 people could have been a pretty scary experience, but you made it both a pleasure and a privilege!

Feeling very privileged to receive such incredible feedback from VIOOHers from all over the globe (including London, New York, Hong Kong and Beijing) from this week's training seminar on Developing Our Culture of Inclusion and Belonging. I absolutely love what I do in developing equity in corporate as well as public sector cultures.

This study totally underlines the importance of sleep in consolidating reading skills.
In this paper, research suggests that "sleep has a major positive impact on the long-term consolidation of this learning ... greatly boost[ing] reading fluency."

As we approach the close of Children's Mental Health week, I just want to emphasise the importance of supporting Parents' Mental Health too.
Having done so much work over the last few years on mental health and wellbeing, it never ceases to amaze me how little evidence-based support there is for parents in learning how to look after their own, as well as their children's, mental health.
That's one of the key reasons why I founded Thesan 5 years ago and we have never been as busy as we are this academic year.
Here's some of the feedback from our parent seminar at Bootham Junior School earlier this week...

How do we teach kids to self-regulate their emotions and practise kindness to themselves and others?

Looking forward to today!
Coaching leaders at Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate and thinking about how to improve even further on existing excellent practice.
My name is Sue O’Leary-Hall and I am the Founder and Academic Director of Thesan. I’m also a teacher, educational leader and, most importantly, a parent. I set Thesan up because I wanted to create a service which not only supports children through each important educational transition and pressure point, but also supports the system around children - their parents, teachers and colleagues in family-focused professions. The idea of of ‘joined-up support’ just makes sense.
There is limited support currently available to parents who might be grappling with the kind of difficult decisions which naturally arise during day-to-day life with a teenager...questions like ‘how much independence is too much?’ ‘Will computer games harm my child’s learning?’ ‘How can I support my child through the move from primary to secondary school? Or with exams? Or with peer pressure?’
After completing a Masters degree in Education, it became clear to me that there is a wealth of research out there about how children learn and develop, and about what kind of responses might be useful to each of these difficult decisions and more. However, only a tiny proportion of that research gets home to parents. So I want to change that.
As a former Director of Teaching & Learning, Head of English & Maths and Head of Sixth Form, I have first hand experience of both the academic and pastoral aspects of school life. In founding Thesan, I also wanted to ‘join up’ those aspects in the services we provide: children need secure emotional foundations from which to blossom as learners.
