Anna Freud’s poll results are in for the new school year!

Just 1 in 10 parents say they have enough support for their child’s mental health and wellbeing and 30% say they would like more support from schools.

With the new academic year starting, children’s mental health organisation, Anna Freud, is calling on the prime minister to take parents feedback and take action.

With the new school year just around the corner, teaching staff all over the UK will soon be preparing to go back to school. We’re here to help!

Use our checklist to be classroom ready:

1. Read Part One of Keeping Children Safe in Education.

This is updated annually and comes into force on 1 September. All staff are required to read it.

2. Review any updates to your school's behaviour, safeguarding and uniform policies.

Policies are often revised over the summer months, so check for changes before term begins.

3. Make sure you've spent time reviewing all your pupils' files thoroughly.

Understanding each pupil's background and needs early will help you plan more effectively from day one.

4. Speak to your pupils' previous teacher to understand their individual needs.

Their insight can save you valuable time in the first few weeks.

5. Confirm your rewards and behaviour management system.

Deciding this in advance means you won't be figuring it out mid-lesson.

6. Finalise your seating plan.

Consider learning needs, friendships and any potential conflicts.

7. Update classroom displays and organise storage.

A well-organised, refreshed space helps set the tone for a new term.

8. Prepare your lesson plans and icebreaker activities for week one.

This gives you the space to focus on building relationships with your class rather than planning as you go.

9. Ensure you get a good night's rest before the first day.

Starting the term well-rested will help you manage the demands of the first week.
