September Intake Students, Please Take Note 🇬🇧
If you’ve already arrived in the UK, check how many of these you’ve done. If you’re still planning to relocate, save this post.
1. Get familiar with your environment.
Take a walk around, know your routes and find affordable supermarkets so you don't overspend.
2. Get a UK SIM card.
You can start with the SIM you received at the Visa Application Centre, if you have one.
3. Attend your university orientation.
This is where you start getting familiar with your school, your environment, available support and, of course, the freebies.
4. Open a bank account.
There are several options, including Revolut, Monzo, Barclays, Lloyds and LemFi. Compare your options and choose what works for you.
5. Learn how to use Google Maps.
Also get familiar with trains, buses and the travel cards or railcards that apply to you.
6. Register with a GP.
Don't wait until you need medical attention before figuring out how healthcare works in your area.
7. Get your NIN sorted.
You may need it for employment and other services, so find out how to apply if you don't already have one.
8. Look into legitimate recruitment agencies.
If you plan to work and you're eligible, register with agencies relevant to the kind of work you're looking for.
9. Keep digital copies of your documents.
Save your passport, visa/eVisa details, CAS, university and accommodation documents where you can easily access them.
10. Build valuable connections.
Talk to people, make friends and connect with other students. Sometimes the right person can point you in the right direction.
11. Complete your important registrations.
There may be other registrations or administrative tasks you need to complete after arrival. Ask your university what applies to you and get them done.
Already in the UK? How many have you ticked off?
And if you're preparing for your September arrival, keep this list handy. You'll need it.
