I am truly honoured to share that I have been awarded the Faith in Action Award under the Special Recognition category at the British Zariah Awards 2026.

And why? Because of this work — this calling:
- Using storytelling to teach morals and values
- Helping young people find identity, confidence, and purpose
- Serving communities, both locally and globally

Thank you for every space that has welcomed me to share this art. Spoken word storytelling is my passion — it is the bloodline passed down through the storytellers who came before me. I carry it with great responsibility and deep joy.

I believe, that stories can heal, teach, and bring us together.

To the British Zariah Awards — thank you for this recognition. I do not take it lightly.

The mission continues.

And just like that, they won’t forget it. Because when you paint the scene with heart, the children don’t just hear the story… they travel. And that’s the magic!

Back at Wetherby Prep and it felt really special to be back.

There’s something powerful about returning to a space and going deeper. This time with the older boys, we moved beyond just telling stories and started exploring what sits underneath them. The meaning. The truth. The depth behind the story.

In the spirit of International Women’s Day, I invited the boys to stand up and speak about the women who have shaped them. Mothers. Sisters. Teachers. Even strangers who showed them kindness. Watching them reflect, honour, and find the words… that stayed with me.

And of course, once they found out I rap… I couldn’t resist dropping a few bars. 🎤

This is the work that stays with you. When young people feel seen, heard, and connected to their own stories, something shifts.

Yesterday at Islamia Primary School — the first Islamic state school in the UK. Last ten days of Ramadan. Book Week. African storytelling. Got the kids up on stage acting out a classic Anansi story. The room was BUZZING. ✨

But my favourite part? Tying it all back to Islam. The very first word the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) spoke to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was “Iqra” — which means READ. So when these children celebrate Book Week, they're not just celebrating reading — they're celebrating something at the very heart of their faith. Would you look at that! 📖🌍

That moment when a child sees THEMSELVES in the message? That's when something clicks. That's when reading stops being a school thing and becomes THEIR thing.

After the assembly I delivered two workshops for Year 6. When the rest of the school found out... they PROTESTED. Said it wasn't fair 😂 A KS1 teacher popped her head in to see what all the commotion was about and said “what about Key Stage 1?” I shrugged my shoulders... errrrr tell the head! LOL!

We went deeper. Body language. The plot matrix. Repetition. Call and response. Yup. That's what I call a tailor made workshop.

Oh and after school? Sold and signed 30 copies of my new children's illustrated book “It's Okay To Be Scared.” What a day! 📚❤️

Every school is different — SEN, faith, personal development. That's why my PA asks all the right questions before every booking. So we turn up ready.

Yesterday I was invited by Learning Through The Arts to celebrate Commonwealth Day, and I witnessed something simple yet deeply profound.

When we give elders the space to tell their stories, we give them back a piece of themselves and we invite the rest of us to listen, learn, and be changed.

An elder I met hesitated, then slowly climbed the stage and began to speak of his father, his spiritual teacher, and his mother’s wishes. As he spoke, the room softened. A tear fell. In that moment, it felt as though he was fulfilling a quiet wish he had carried for many years. The wish to be heard.

The unison of voices, the movement, the repetition. It was not performance. It was belonging. It was memory finding its way back into the room.

What struck me most was how one story opens the door for another. When one person steps forward, they give everyone else permission to do the same.

If you have an elder in your life with a story waiting to be shared, ask them to tell it. Sit with them. Listen carefully.

Stories keep memory alive. They build connection across generations. And sometimes, the greatest gift we can give someone is simply the space to be seen and heard.

"Could you be a therapist please? Because he makes us smile, he makes people happy, and he makes stories fun."

I don't think I'll ever receive a better review than that — from a student at Marketfield School, a specialist SEN school where every single student has an education, health and care plan, and moderate learning needs.

And I was lucky enough to be back — this time to help them celebrate World Book Day 🎉📚

Across two assemblies and workshops with KS1 and beyond, these were students who often find reading a challenge. Students who are pre-verbal. Students who don't always find it easy to engage — and yet there they were: singing, dancing, clapping, and joining in.

Hearing that a student offered a fiver for me to come back the next day. Hearing "it's been the best day ever." Hearing that students "didn't think stories could be so much fun."

That's why I do this work.

Stories aren't just for children who find them easy. They're for every child. And hearing things like these remind me that the right story, told the right way, can reach anyone.

Yesterday at Lordship Lane for World Book Week 2026 📚

There is something deeply powerful about sitting in a room full of children and watching curiosity take over. Hands raised, eyes focused, voices ready to be heard.

We talked about the power of words. How the things we say to others and the things we say to ourselves can shape how we feel, how we act, and how we see the world. I reminded the children that words can either build someone up or quietly tear them down, and that choice matters.

What stayed with me was how the children took the lesson in. The way they repeated the words out loud and nodded in recognition.

We said the ABC mantra together. You are Awesome. You are Beautiful. You are Capable. Not just something to say once, but something to carry with you. A way of speaking with kindness, to others and to yourself. Because when children begin to change the language they use, they begin to change the story they believe about who they are. ✨

Two shows. Both full. Royal Ballet And Opera House delivered. ✨

Families packed into the room for the Heroes & Villains Family Sunday and they came ready. What struck me most was how quickly everyone surrendered to the oral art of storytelling. No screens, no passivity. Just listening, reacting, feeling.

The children are always the unexpected highlight. They arrive guarded, some barely making eye contact and somewhere in the middle of a story, something shifts. They are up, they are answering, they are in it. Confidence you can actually see happening in real time.

'It’s Okay To Be Scared' is well and truly doing the rounds too, signed copies going home with young people who came in unsure and left with something to hold onto. That feels significant.

Grateful to the Royal Ballet And Opera House for putting storytelling at the heart of a day like this, alongside dance, music and live performance. Oral tradition belongs in spaces like this.

Yesterday, I had the honour of partnering with the National Literacy Trust at Arm Ltd in Cambridge for a children’s literacy and technology day.

Free books were given to children to promote reading, tech exploration, and, of course, the telling of stories to spark curiosity, self-assurance, and possibilities. I introduced the children to the folktale character Anansi the spider! - who helped me teach about the power of teamwork and the quiet voice in your head that sometimes tells you to shrink and how you can challenge it and choose courage instead.

I also signed copies of ‘It’s Okay to Be Scared’ as gifts for the four classes, thanks to NLT!

A personal highlight: a child high-fived me and cheerfully declared, 'I am never washing his hand again.' These little connections are what make it all worthwhile.

Thank you to the National Literacy Trust for creating a space where imagination and learning meet.
