The picture belows shows a poster I made up for a 5 minute presentation I did recently.

The field of neuropsychology and the way the education system can draw from it to understand and support the many 'behaviours' children and young people (CYP) exhibit, I feel, is an area that is very much overlooked, underepresented and underestimated.

What we urgently need now is a new paradigm in education - one that crosses the great divide between neuroscience and education. - (Barbara Arrowsmith-Young -The woman who changed her Brain)

Every child is different...

Representation in the Down syndrome community matters and I have decided to use our platform to let our followers show that we all have worth. All of our children should be seen.

I'm always very aware of the fact that River not showing all the characteristics of his disability is not necessarily a positive. What I mean by that is that River is in no way "the face of Down syndrome" and should not be valued more due to his appearance or abilities. Every child with Down syndrome has worth and should never feel like they have no place within society.

People who have followed us for a long time will know I've tackled this many times through my writing. Every single person has worth, regardless of appearance or abilities. Everyone. River is not a representation of Down syndrome, he is a representation of himself. This is our story, our life and our truth. That's it.

So I've had an idea and I'd love it if people who follow us would take part. Every Friday our platform is going to be for you guys and your stories. If you'd like to take part then please drop a comment or send me a message, I would love to feature you here. I'd love to hear what your childs story with Down syndrome is and let's get the message out there that our children are not all the same, they all have value and they all deserve to be seen.

I'm excited about this! Drop a pic of your littles below 🥰🥰🥰

TS still on my mind...

Just reading this article and find it interesting. It explains a number of the behaviours/attitudes I am having to deal with🤔

Understanding Behavioral Symptoms in Tourette Syndrome - Tourette Association of America Tourette Syndrome and its related disorders can manifest as behaviors that often appear to be purposefully disruptive, attention seeking or manipulative. It is therefore not unusual to misinterpret symptoms of the disorder as behavioral problems rather than the neurological symptoms that they are.

TS on my mind...

When you have a child that has a diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome and you have certain frustrations regarding some behaviours. Being in a reflective mood and trying to understand the 'why(s)?'. Doing my own 'internet' research and came across a research paper with this extract...🤔
