This year’s Youth Mental Health Day theme is about recognising that your future does not have to be figured out all at once. It is about taking small, manageable steps in a direction that feels meaningful to you and knowing that those steps matter, even when they do not feel significant at the time.

That might be sending a message to someone you trust, trying something you have been putting off, making time for something you enjoy, or asking for help with something that feels difficult. Each of those things is a step toward building the future you want.

What is one small step you could take this week?

The future can be something to look forward to, but it can also bring uncertainty and worry.

Research from The King’s Trust TK Maxx Youth Index 2025 found that 53% of young people in the UK feel anxious about their future every day. At the same time, 70% say they are determined to reach their goals.

Both things can be true. Young people can feel worried about what lies ahead and still have hopes, ambitions and reasons to keep moving forward.

That is the thinking behind this year’s Youth Mental Health Day theme, : supporting young people not to have all the answers, but to take manageable steps towards a future that matters to them.

What future do you want to see? Add your hopes and ideas to our Future You Wall and help us build a picture of the future young people want.

Youth Mental Health Day is Friday 18 September. Visit: https://stem4.org.uk/youthmentalhealthday/
